Adding Apple TV

Hi Folks

Picking some brains here, sorry for the long post.

I've put an Apple TV into my L322. I've got it working fine through the rear RCA plugs, but I wanted to hide it away more and to be able to use it on the front screen (whilst stopped/parked). My DVD player has been playing up so I decided that the easiest way would be to use the 13 pin cable that connects to the DVD player. I have an HDMI to RCA splitter and I've split three RCA cables and added small connectors on them. I've connected the RCA plugs to the DVD cable and I can now get Apple TV pictures on the rear screens and the front screen. I can also get sound through the headphones on the rear, but I can't get sound on the front.

The TV sound works on the front and radio/AUX work fine with sound. I've tried lots of different pin configurations on the cable, but obviously there are a lot of different ways for that.

I assume that I'm not getting the right pins.

Does anyone know which pins on the DVD cable are for front DVD sound? I've used the yellow RCA plug for video. I think the red and white are audio. Which is which - I thought it would be right and left but the rear seems to work better with just one of them connected.

Am I missing something here?

It's not the end of the world as I could use the RCA plugs in the rear, but that wouldn't allow Apple TV to the front screen.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.

Does it go via that for just the front? I've got sound to the rear screens without using the fiber link.

toslink stereo or even gives 5.1 audio goes to amplifier which converts to surround. Aux signal goes to RSE wireless headphomes.

You can strip out the audio with something like this, but whether it would sync exactly with the video...... I guess with Amazon, you can always return it.

Alternatively, some of the older Apple TV boxes had a separate Toslink output.

Yes, thanks. This is what I'm looking at now. My Apple TV doesn't have the optical out port unfortunately.

Fingers crossed.

I'm so close I don't want to go back to using the RCA inputs in the rear of the centre console.

Do you need the latest hardware ?

A Gen 3 box is only £30 on eBay.

No, mine is a Gen 4.

I'm pretty hopeful that the box I'm looking at will solve my problems.

Just following up on this topic.
I've got it working perfectly now.
Apple TV works on the front screen (whilst stopped) with sound through the speakers.
It also works on the back screens with headphones.
All neatly packed away in the back left side.
It works tethering to my iPhone whilst away from the house WiFi.
I can also stream directly from my phone to the back screens using the RCA ports.
And as an extra I've got bluetooth connectivity for my phone for music using an FM channel on the radio which doesn't have the hissing I got from the AUX post.

So I'm very happy and I enjoyed doing it. I'll bet Amazon aren't too pleased with all the returns that I've had though Laughing

Good result Thumbs Up

I lost many hours of my life and countless £ on bits & pieces getting a PS/1 working on mine back in 2005. Kept the kids occupied though in the days before iPads.

Hello would you have the pin out to connect the RCA cable to the DVD? Trying to replicate your procedure.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I can't remember which pins I used, but I'm sure I wrote it all down. Let me look to see if I can find it.
