If it's the same handbrake arrangement as my 06 TD6, then a pair of thin pliers will let you pull it out sufficiently to refit the actuator. You're pulling it against the spring-loaded adjuster at the handbrake end. |

It's a cable with spring and then a bit is attached to the cable which latches into the expander.

Update: pulling the emergency release cable in the boot compartment sorted it. Could attach the expander to the cable.
