When IIDTool refers to bank 1 and 2 how does that relate to looking at the engine when standing at the front looking into the engine bay

Bank 1 is always the same side as #1 piston.

For the ajv8 engines, 4.4 and 4.2, look at this:

The previous picture from Spud is only for bmw 4.4 m62 engine, and maybe ford v8 diesels (not sure for diesel versions).
Bank sides are identical, but numbering of cyilinders not.
