2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 4.4 Fuji

Long time lurker, thought I would finally get around to documenting some of the bits on the car and ownership experience.

Always wanted a Range Rover since my dad a nearly new P38 Autobiography in 2001, I was lucky enough as a plucky 18yr old to drive it on a few occasions also. From that moment on, I knew I would get one. Indescribable experience that stayed with me for 20 years. Until I wrote this out I hadn’t twigged it took me 20 years!! Ha.

Anyway, sold my old ML500 and wanted to go for a Westminster. Largely because I remember seeing the P38’s with the badges and always thought it sounded cool (probably the only one). Turns out that heated/cooled seats, thick Matt’s and the stereo upgrade was what I was after. Looked for a few weeks and one finally popped up. Had to be Fuji white, I’m not a fan of white SUV’s in general but happened to see one locally and was blown away how modern it looked still. I live white cars in general, so whilst I know it’s not a popular choice on here I love it.

July 2021 and I finally got my wish, a 2012 TDV8 Westminster. Deal was done after I instantly fell in love with it on the test drive.

Will update with the journey since then, it’s been (mostly!) trouble free thankfully.

On my search there weren’t that many Fuji ones for sale, this one was the right miles/price and condition seemed good. It had a couple of downsides, first being the 22” wheels which I was not really after. Second being the rear boot strip had been swapped out for a chrome job that was not to my taste.

After viewing the car, I adored the wheels as the style 5004 wheels really suit the L322 IMO, I know they won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I was over the moon with it.
They look great here

Thanks both Thumbs Up

Cayman I picked him up on 77k, on a 12 plate. 9 years old at the time, drove perfect but did notice the howl from the cheap Chinese tyres fitted. I had planned to replace almost instantly but life got in the way and felt bad binning tyres on 7mm tread. They improved overall thankfully, but this was added to the to do list, which was reassuringly small.

Yes as mentioned the car is painted in Fuji White, which was the colour I was after.

So as you can see (just) from the advert, the rear boot strip was chrome and not to my personal taste.

So when I picked it up I was surprised to find it had been stuck on top of the original! So a channel of dirt was created and it was full of crap, it was also sharp! I ordered a new one from PowerfulUK.

So I got to work removing it with some floss and tar remover - as you can see I understand why they wanted to cover it up! But still.

So removed this too and fitted the new one, much better!

From a maintenance point of view, I checked Topix and say my 10yr service ass due and given the info online about gearboxes (ZF8) I contacted Bodsy and got him over to do a full gearbox flush and all diff and TXB fluids. I followed this up with a full service also.

So far so good!

So the next few months we’re pretty smooth sailing. Just driving and enjoying.

Then I had a business trip to Madrid and left it standing for a week, upon return in the cold of December it started chirping like crazy. Obviously a six belt/accessory related issue and google steered me here and confirmed. Everywhere was booked solid, so used a random garage which turned out to be an expensive mistake.

This got rid of all of the noises and the engine seemed super refined Vs. Before so I was pleased as punch. For all of a few days. Fast forward to Xmas eve and was doing a spot of car cleaning with a friend and moved the car to get his out. This was a short stop/start, it was cold and turning it off so soon meant something happened with the FBH and the car appeared as though it was going up in smoke! Heart attack! (Later learned this can happen when I burned fuel is in the lines, has never done since)

Obviously first thing I did was pop the bonnet and whilst inspecting it, noticed my new belt. Yikes.

Garage kindly took the car in mid day on Xmas eve and sorted it again. I was not convinced this would last all that long, so in January took it to a local specialist to replace all the pulleys and tensioners with a new belt. Has been fine ever since (weirdly the engine was never as smooth as with that first shredded belt but oh well 😂)

First unplanned bill(s) but to be expected with a cad quickly approaching 10 years old

I replaced all the pulleys, tensioner, belts, waterpump and alternator with Genuine parts and it still squeaks when it's cold. To be fair it was quiet for about a month!! Thumbs Up

Yep mine now does the same! It’s on my list to sort, had a look and seems a few people on here have experienced similar. It seems to disappear quite quickly so haven’t been in a huge rush. All gen LR parts for the pulleys/tensioners etc. thought it might be the alternator or A/C compressor
