How to disable keyless entry

Open drivers door and keep it open. Place the key fob to the RHS of the steering wheel and next to /touching the dash.

Press the lights on button (bottom left) on the key fob 3 times followed immediately by the unlock button (top right) once. Press all the buttons quickly and in succession. There is no response to confirm the change has occurred.

This also prevents the gesture tailgate feature from operating. MY23 D350 HSE

That’s a top tip Thumbs Up

I would love to have the dealer disable it so insurance would acknowledge it. I simply don’t use the feature. MY23 PHEV HSE

Much better than the dogs triggering the gesture tailgate when open at a shoot... Rolling Eyes Banging Head

If you leave your car unlocked, yeah, but otherwise, wouldn't the dog need to be holding the keyfob for that to happen?

Re: How to disable keyless entry

I can’t get this to work, is the ignition on or off? Are you sure it’s the right hand side of the steering wheel?

Ignition off. I tried both sides and the RHS next to the dash/wheel worked for me. Literally touching the dash.

All the button presses need to be in quick succession. There is no response when the change occurs. If the indicators flash at the end then it hasn’t worked,

Took me a couple of attempts. MY23 D350 HSE

And how do you know when it's worked, you can't unlock the car by pressing the button on the door handle to unlock it with the key in your pocket?

Yes that’s correct sir… Approaching the car with the key in your pocket, it won’t unlock when you pull the handle. Or lock when you touch the lock button on the handle… 👍

I just tried this and it worked first time. Key held on dash on right side of steering wheel, almost touching steering column and an inch below the screen.

I couldn't get the boot to open with gesture before hand but now pleased it can't happen by mistake.

What is the difference in disabling keyless entry this way versus doing it through the screen menus?

In the menu you can specify if the doors should unlock when approaching and/or lock automatically when leaving. You can disable either or both of these through the menu.

I don’t think the screen menu option was available when I took delivery of a MY23 earlier this year.

I wanted my keyless function fully turned off for security reasons, plus I prefer to use the fob to unlock/lock the doors.

I assume the screen menu option doesn’t fully turn off the keyless function, only partially? May be the boot sensors remain active using the screen menu even if the doors are inactive? It’s worth checking. MY23 D350 HSE

Just tested the Powered gesture tailgate when the vehicle was locked and with the keyfob in my pocket. And it worked just fine - tailgate opened without the doors being unlocked! Personally I think that is a usable feature.

I thought the 460 was different to the 405 and you didn't have to worry about the unlocking as you can't capture the key code and retransmit it to open the car... And no need for a faraday pouch either....

Or did I read it wrong...? Pete

From a LR PR release:

“State-of-the-art keyless technology brings added cyber security and convenience with advanced Ultra Wide Band (UWB) transceivers preventing thefts from copycat devices. Jaguar Land Rover was the first vehicle manufacturer to introduce the pioneering keyless entry system and New Defender uses the innovative set-up to resist relay attack and meet the world’s toughest security standards.’’

There is also a movement detector in the key that switches it off in the house, meaning there is no need for a Faraday pouch.

However, note it says ‘resist’ not ‘prevent’. How long before the scum and their technology catch up? And it doesn’t prevent a CAN bus attack. You need a Ghost or similar immobiliser to hamper such an attack.
