Lower Tailgate Straps…..

Hi,

Searched the threads but can’t find any definite info…. Moving house today… and the LH lower tailgate strap has started to give way. Quite common….

I’m trying to find which part numbers I need… I have the damping kit as it’s a 2011. Some list the straps as LR038051 and say x2…. But then some list that as 2002 to 2010…. Some don’t. Are they different each side if the damper strut is fitted?

Cheers

The ones you need have a nipple on top of one of the bolts - I have a spare one (f.o.c.) at work if you need it.

That’s a lovely offer Iain, many thanks. I will take you up on that if I can.

Is the nipple extra just for the side with the damper and the other side the normal part number as above do you know? LH one has failed and I think the dampened side is RH, but that won’t be far behind failing I would imagine.

They are different, Robin sourced me a pair for my last 322, as stated the drivers side one has a bolt with a nipple on the end for the damper... Other than that they are the same... Thumbs Up Pete

The nippled one will fit both sides, but you only need it on the offside. I'll check in the morning - I may well have more than one. Let me know if you want it/them posting or you could nip in to my work and I'll fit it/them, only takes a few minutes.

The tailgate cable part numbers are:

LH Cable: LR017462 / LR038051
RH Cable: LR017461 / LR038048 (This one has the nipple for the damper)

Make sure you get genuine LR or Britpart Cables, as a lot of the ones advertised are the wrong lengths. I got my two cables from Island 4x4, bit more pricey than the 'fleabay' cheapies, but they fit correctly.

Hello chaps - on the topic of the straps - I took the damper and strap off my 2011 TDV8 last night to check the damper strength.
The “ nipple “ bolt came undone easily but the captive nut end in the bodywork fell out and into the body cavity.

It was too late in the day to look further but has anyone come across this before and is there a quick fix ?

I tired a forum search last night but failed to find any answers .

Thanks ,

Andrew.

Perhaps a Rivnut could be the solution, better than having to weld a nut to the panel👍 Kevin

Yes - thanks for the suggestion. I had been wondering if I could use a rivnut. I need to check the size of the hole it has left me to play with .
