Loads of tyre threads on here Steve so plenty of opinions. I have had GG ATs on both my Full Fats and on a couple of XC90s before that. If you are likely to be doing a bit of off roading Now and again, but want a good solid tyre that lasts ages then they are a great option. I’m running 255/55/20. |

I’ve had GG AT3’s 255/55/20 on for just over 2 years, no problems at all.

I found the AT2's to have very weak sidewalls, Pirelli AT/R's were much more resilient and a great all-round tyre. Unfortunately they're no longer available in the size needed but the OEM tyres do perform very well offroad, despite being road-biased.

I have 255 55 20 all round and very happy. Got them from Paddocks Spares at a great price.

Noted. So a 55 profile over a 50 provides a tad more comfort would you say, even if minimal?

More sidewall flex is a definite plus for offroad use, the opposite is true for 'performance' |

If your considering 255/55’s I’d rather go 285/50’s (and did 3 years ago) they are on all through the winter / shooting season and cope admirably with deep mud and snow. This last season was 44 shooting / days off road. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 |

Well, 255/55 R20 are the standard size for L405, make of that what you will. I briefly ran 255/60R18 AT2's on my L319 across North Africa. They were a standard size, as previously mentioned the sidewalls were prone to damage. Granted, in UK, airing down to improve traction isn't something you'd normally do, unlike most of the rest of the world - I don't know if it's due to terrain or custom & practice but it is something that's routinely done elsewhere. After that, I ran 255/50R19 AT/R's on the same bits of North Africa but a year later with better traction and no sidewall concerns. A few years later on a L322 I ran 255/55 R20 standard Pirelli's - road mpg was about 25-30% better than the AT2's and offroad performance was on a par with the AT/R's, granted, a different vehicle, maybe I was lucky, maybe it was the resilience of the Pirelli's but no sidewall damage across 1500 miles in North Africa and 2000 road miles getting there & back. Sure, there was a couple of repairable punctures, that's to be expected and prepared for, and (hopefully) the AT3's are an improvement on the AT2's, personally I'd be spending money on tyres that I know and trust to withstand 'all terrains' I'm likely to experience. |

If the choice was between these 2 sizes on a L322 I’d go with the 275/45/20, they are a fair bit wider, give more rim protection, give better grip on the road tyre for tyre of the same make and tread pattern, don’t alter your gearing and look better. I’ve had 3 or 4 sets on 2 L322’s and would happily buy the 275’s again. The 255/50’s are an L405 size and are narrower and a bit taller, they also lift your gearing slightly and do dull the acceleration a little (if that matters), your mpg also goes up a tad due to the higher gearing. The L405’s also come as standard in 275/40/22 or 285/40/22 depending on vehicle spec. Hence my choice of the 285/50/20’s in an AT pattern. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 |

So if I have the OEM L322 20 inch alloys the 275/45/20 AT3’s or 285/50/20 AT3’s should both fit

Both will fit, the 285’s will rub slightly on full Lock on a 322. The 275’s won’t rub, I have had both and on a L322, personally I would go 275/45/20, they are the widest you can go, retains the same rolling radius as OEM, so you don’t dull your acceleration by slightly lifting the gearing of the car.

Hi there, I have recently fitted two P275 65 18 P275/65R18 114H MICHELIN PILOT LTX M+S TYRES on the front of my 2006 rr 3.0 diesel vogue, but left the vanqish P275/65R18 A/T's on the rear. Some people say that new tyres should only be put on the rear if adding in pairs, but I thought the tyres would 'even' themsleves up because there is less 'drag' from the Michelin's despite them being new, the rear tyres are very chunky with 7 mills of tread on each, any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
