Prices buying compared to selling

Look to buy an SDv8 Privately, my problem is cars are advertised at way over what they are worth according to car buying sites and the autotrader

I have no problem paying the price but when it comes to selling I will take a huge hit.

I am getting offered around £2-3k less for my current car compared to what its selling for where as the RR is around 8 to 10K difference. From what I can tell its only the RR this is affecting.

Anyone else seen this issue? Are RRs even selling at these prices?

I don't want to insult anyone but equally I don't want take a big hit if I cant get on with it and selling SDV8

I don't think its just range rovers that there is such a price differential on.

I got £14.5k for my trade in on my Panamera against the RR. The dealer sold it for £19.5k within a week.

The car buying sites will always quote trade price, Private will always be higher than that, and retail even higher still.

It has always been so.

If you are prepared to buy and sell privately the amount you will lose will be much less. The problem is that if you have a high value vehicle like a RR, people normally buy on finance, hence they can be more difficult to sell privately.

that's the problem though, private is as expensive as dealers. Maybe as you say on financed and need more to clear their feet.

I expect to lose money on a car even buying private but not £10k.

£3-5k mark-up for trade to retail is about right I suppose SDV8

Not really looked at prices for used, but generally speaking the bubble hasn't yet burst and dealers are still charging a premium, often for cars that aren't worth it.

Privately, people can ask what they want, but getting it is another matter, they can't offer warranty, buyer protection, like 30 day return or credit facilities so they're probably just chancing their arm. I've seen a 2016 Defender XS, for sale privately, its way over priced, its been on Autotrader for 18 months.

The forum has some cracking cars that come up for sale, at least you know you're buying from an enthusiast.

100% agree. There was a Red 4.4 L405 sold on here recently that looked superb value!

I know. Too many miles for me but at that price I have been deliberating the last few days.

Might just give him a shout anyway. If the spec is great maybe worth a punt SDV8

Try buying at what WBAC or the likes offer you online, absolutely no chance. I had this early in the year when selling my merc WBAC was offering around £12500 and I had it up for £17500. A buyer asked me where I got the price from as he had put the car into these sites , even though mine was competitive with all of the ones for sale. It sold for £16500. I,m afraid these sites are very misleading and you will be waiting a long time if you go by them. The higher the value the bigger the margin. overfinch modified

I agree to an extent. I don’t expect to buy at WBAC prices quite happy to pay more just not £8-10k more. WBAC are offering good money for my car so that’s likely where it will end up going SDV8

Buy it and drive it for a year then move it on.

Cheap motoring....relatively speaking.

When I was looking for mine recently it seemed that dealer used prices were finally moving down to more sensible levels after all the craziness of the past few years.

In quite a few cases it was the private sellers who were/are still asking very unrealistic prices such that dealer cars of the same spec could be had for the same money or less.

I was less concerned about mileage, history and condition were my key criteria.

If I was still in the market, for me that 2013 AB mentioned above would be worth a look.

Yeah totally agree, its the Private guys that are not being realistic. Found 2, going to see one on Wednesday. If as described I will buy it. Right miles, age, options and price

I am really torn with the one on here. Miles are high but not daft and deffo the right price. Surprised its not gone. My worry is if I actually got all the history and spec etc I would buy it. Prob a good job its not listed in the advert

Will know more on Wednesday SDV8

IMO the one on here is average miles or just under for what is now a 10 year old car. I'd be more concerned at low average mileage 'city' type cars, i.e. lots of short journeys, never properly warmed up which is never good, especially for turbo'd DPF diesels.

Good luck with your searches. I had to travel over 700 miles for mine!
