With that budget, I’d hold out for one with a complete & evidenced service history (i.e ideally supported by invoices, not just stamps in the book).

Hi, wise words, thanks for that. At the end of the day it will only be used as a weekender but don’t want the decision to bite me on the ares, financially that is…. & as you say just wait it out until the right car turns up.

When I was looking for mine I did consider a LWB version.

Depends a bit on how long you intend to keep the car, and how lucky you are. Length of time will impact depreciation. Current prices are stupid high for virtually all used cars and IMO there will be a correction at some point. When I sold my 2012 just over 2 years ago, the WBAC price was ~£13k. The car has since been sold on for lots more than that. If you get out again before the correction then little loss, if after, you'll be looking at dropping £10k. Luck will impact running costs. Get a good one and its £100s per year, get unlucky and its many £1000s. Here is some info from my experiences I have found that a RR that is used is much better all round than one which has been sitting - I bought my l322 11 years ago for 13.5k - 14.5k with extra winter wheels and towbar bike rack it had done just under 60k it now has 235k + my usage is 15 to 20k per year some years it costs virtually nothing in maintenance others it has been quite heavy - I replace engine oil every 8k approx gearbox and diffs every 30k front arms every couple of years and chose to change everything on the front of the engine alt, pulleys , aircon etc at 150k as they were starting to get noisy also front airbags at about 120k and had both diffs reconditioned at 180k. I suppose what I am saying is that because I use it it is quite cheap to run as even if I get nothing for it it has only lost just over a grand a year my last Jag lost a grand a week.

Always worth running the plates or better still the VIN through Topix to see if any missing history is on there?

Stand to be corrected but I believe the OSH with no physical service book only started from the L405 model Range Rovers, not L322’s, so as Craig mentioned, you’d need to be able to identify which specific dealers serviced it and contact them to see if they can provide any details, although having tried this myself previously, it generally turns up nothing or data protection waffle.
