The ringing of the wheel will be dampened when the tyre is fitted which is easily demonstrated if you hit a wheel off or on a car. Most road noise is external and from the tread pattern where the individual blocks 'hammer' down on the road surface so worse for off road tyres. If fitting cheap foam would make even a small reduction in noise manufacturers would fit them as standard. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yeah agree. I have no intention of fitting it just wondered if it was any good I suppose. SDV8

I’ve seen tyres with foam on the insides, and now this thread has shown fitting foam inside the alloy, the centrifugal force with want to peel it off.. but if say rubber was bonded to the outside inner rim. Externally, and then balanced, that would absorb a lot of noise, or even the sound matting material.. foam would take on water, and clause lots of issues. But surely sound matting would work?

I have a work van, a corsa, with terrible tyre noise, I asked to drive another as it’s so bad, same! and they are all roaring really loud at 50 mph, and lower. It feels like they are solid tyres, and pressures have been experimented with too.

Road noise is my pet hate. On my other cars (most of them) I found that insulating under the wheel arch with sound deadening mat and them foam was the most effective. Prob only takes an hour an arch so pretty time efficient as well. I have tried insulation inside the car but always found very little improvement.

Just hoping the RR is quiet from the get go?

There is a guy on youtube who did DIY foam on his tyres but failed miserably only after a few miles. He could not find a strong enough glue it would seem SDV8
