Baffled

Insurance is due for renewal.

So rang A-Plan as they sponsor this forum and are, apparently, specialists for FFRR.

Quote was much higher than elsewhere and woman I spoke to said they were better for modified cars rather than standard ones like mine.

What a waste of time that was. What do I put here then?

I had the same poor experience with APlan. Called for a quote, no information provided for several days. When they finally quoted the quote was considerably higher than every other broker I contacted and I had already accepted another quote. They seem to be totally out of touch with the markert.

Surely the forum should be able find a sponsoring broker that is capable of harnessing the buying power of the collective members of the forum. 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Current

Totally agree, I've tried them twice now and the quotes were ridiculous, not just a bit more but silly money...

They wouldn't quote on Fatty Offroader because it was modified....!!!!!

Stan... anything Martin can do..?? Pete

I had all my eggs in one basket with them at one point house and two cars. One by one they've lost my business over the last year but funnily enough the one they've kept is my standard range rover.

90% of the hits on confused.com were betteer than the renewal for my 911 and the house insurance was rediculous. Current

I got a quote from A-Plan a few years ago, very expensive compared to others. I haven't tried since. Geoff

Think in general range rovers are just becoming too expensive too insure. My quotes atm are anything from £2k to £15k so in my case its forcing me too consider on if its a car I can justify keeping.

Looked up a golf gti on the insurance. £600 for me so says it all

For me traditionally I thought third party only insurance was supposed too be cheaper.

Let's have a look here

Hmmm. I was with A-Plan for many years. With our LR90, Trailer, Track Car, SUV and Estate car. Oh and the house.

Every time I receive a renewal they are increasingly expensive. I now (only) have the house and 1 car with them.

They are good at specialist insurance. For a heavily modified track car, with also wanting track day cover, they are one of the few brokers who seem to offer it.

TBH (And only an opinion) - since A-Plan is now part of the Howden (insurance empire) - they seem to load specialist cover with a hefty premium and are willing to be uncompetitive with everything else... Current: L322 2011 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE, MB GLB AMG35, Renault Clio R200 Cup

Absolute waste of time. It took 25 minutes for them to take my details (inc how many doors my car had!!) then returned a premium of over £1100 which the customer service agent told me was due to my high mileage (12,000pa). 25 minutes of my life I will never get back Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.

Unbelievable prices! I have just renewd insurance for my wife's Freelander 2 using Money Supermarket. Lowest quote was £167, fully Comprehensive. Adrian Flux usually are worth trying for anything out of the ordinary.

Same but oddly on Moneysupermarket, one quote was £650 but when I clicked through it went up to £1475 which was mildly annoying Censored Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.

As with most service providers, misplaced loyalty counts for nothing and switching each year to take advantage of new customer discounts is in my experience the best way to get equivalent or better product at the best price.

The business model relies on a calculated percentage of customers not switching and just paying the extra which outweighs the lost business of those leaving and going elsewhere.

Offering new customers a keener price than existing customers for the same product was supposedly being stamped out but I’m not sure that edict is being taken seriously.

Going slightly off topic, Our internet provider, Gigaclear, openly admitted existing customers whose bill increased threefold was covering the loss to acquire new customers at a significantly discounted rate.

They even had the temerity to point out I had no other choice aside the BT copper wire option Rolling Eyes

At least with insurance there’s a sea of alternative providers vying for your business Thumbs Up Jonathan
