My Dad has a 2012 Evoque 2.2D, TD4 I think it says. He has occasionally had restricted performance appear on the dash… then it would go away, or go away whilst he was driving. He said you wouldn’t notice it as a passenger but he noticed the engine slightly stutter, then all was well again…

Been out in it today and it wouldn’t accelerate above light throttle… flat to the floor… nothing other than the first 1500rpm or so. No smoke or anything….. Of course if you changed up it pulled a bit, as at bottom of Rev range again… no fault showing on dash… sometimes you turn it off and it’s all good again.

He doesn’t have a code reader…. I’ve suggested he needs to get it to the garage now… have any of you folks got any thoughts?

Split boost pipe?

It was on ours anyway, got lucky and it was the first pipe I touched, the one from the inlet dropping down the front of the rad. I'm pretty sure from memory it was very close to the starter motor body and had been rubbing slightly to create a weak spot. Current

EGR valve or split boost pipe

I have just suffered this on my 2012 2.2 Evoque here are the symptoms + the fix we had.

Symptoms

Stutter at lights or roundabout was the first sign. then the odd restricted performance light. this became more regular and sometimes no lights at all but no power (Just like restricted performance mode)

ran the code scanner x4 codes i cannot remember all of them but x2 were to do with boost and then P00405 & P00406 these were electrical codes for the EGR.

Fixes

the main cold side boost pipe from intercooler to throttle body are know to get a hole. So ordered a new one and swapped out only to find the original is in good condition but was NEVER fitted correctly the bottom of the hose was clamped by just 1mm! so this got rid of the boost codes and the other 2 for a few hundred miles. but they came back!!

I was going to swap out the EGR but decided in the end to have it coded out i also went with a re-map too. The car still goes through the DPF re-gen i have verified this. and after 400 miles it is a different car with a 5MPG uplift too so happy with that.
there is a chance the DPF will need the ash emptying sooner as there is more dirty air passing through now, also the emissions seem un affected as we have had that tested too. as for the DPF if it was destined to be full at 150k it will probably now be full at 130k. the milage is just used a visualization.

Regarding EGR delete etc.

How do the 3rd party companies (and owner) ensure it complies with emissions? Do you get a certificate?
Its a non OEM modification would the insurance company have a escape clause?
If you sold it would you still be liable for prosecutions I wonder?

these are good points and should be considered.

all i can say is i have tested the emissions and it is actually cleaner than when tested for the last MOT and before i had EGR issues.
