Electric Tow Bar Won't Retract

Hi all

I have just purchased a 2013 Vogue SE. The tow bar is currently deployed and I would like to retract it as I'll never need to use the tow bar. The manual in the vehicle doesn't mention anything about the tow bar but I found a guide on how to deploy/retract.

This is not working. When I select the on/off button - it goes red and stays red. The deploy/stow button flashes green (whilst the on/off button is solid red) and there is a beeping noise for a few seconds. The to bar doesn't move at all.

It is worth noting that before purchasing the vehicle, a new battery was supplied and fitted (Napa battery AGM START STOP) - not sure if this will have anything to do with the tow bar system.

Appreciate any advice, I have read a guide on how to reset the system which I have tried and made no difference. Although I have found two different guides online and not sure which one is correct.

Hi & welcome to the forum.

My fear is always the opposite, I'll need the tower & it won't deploy - but fortunately that hasn't happened.....yet.

There are a few clues on this thread which may help (or may not)

I also recall something about gear cogs which can degrade.

The deployable tow bar is not in the main manual, there was a supplementary few pages that should be with the handbook, but could easily become separated. However, it sounds like you have it figured out - press one button, then the other - mine then starts beeping and deploys or retracts. Needs to be engine off I think.

There's always this 'service action' which may be worth checking with a main dealer ?

The one thing I did find was that if you hold the deploy or store button apparently the battery supplies a little bit of extra juice. I keep mine deployed now I have got it out because I use it fairly regularly (bike rack). There is a reset procedure in my manual I just followed that. Geoff

Thanks for the responses. It turned out the motor was completed dead. Ended up having the tow bar removed
