For those of you who might be interested in the mechanicals of this engine or are thinking of extending the oil change intervals. This gives an insight into complexity, shortcomings and where up to 550 hp comes from.

That's an interesting post. Having done all the timing on my 4.2 last summer, here's a couple of observations I made:

The 4.2 Supercharged has 4 timing chains, 1 short one in each head that links the cams and a long one for each head that links one cam and the crank. The 5.0 has one chain for each side and another to drive the oil pump/high pressure fuel pumps. The chains don't look as substantial on the 5.0 as they do on the 4.2 either!

The chain guides on the 4.2 are aluminium with a plastic cover whereas all of those were completely plastic too.
