Range Rover Lettering Question

Hi,

I pick up my car tomorrow. Very exiting!

The silver Range Rover lettering on the bonnet has lost some of the lacquer and gone off colour despite only being 5 years old.

I can see on ebay there are cheap sets available but I imagine they are not of the same quality although I am happy to try them.

Does anyone have any recommendations of what to do? Could I use Autosol on the lettering to restore?

I wouldn't say no to going gloss black

Thanks in advance

Jay

Mine were the same and the dealer painted them prior to collection. Since then a few have fallen off so I've bought a replacement set and will get round to fitting them when it gets a bit warmer. Can't confirm quality yet but it was cheap. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Sounds like the JLR OEM ones are no better than the ones from eBay/Aliexpress?

I’d like a few more opinions first, though Whistle

I doubt Autosol will do any good, the “chrome” plating on plastic is too thin to allow much polishing.
Damn fiddly to do effectively, also!

Maybe buy a set and give a few coats of clear acrylic before fitting? Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I've used the ones from PowerfulUK on previous vehicles and they've been perfectly fine quality-wise. They also come with a template to get them in the right place. I'd buy from them again. Hope that helps. Kev

I have just had this issue with my main agent - she had PERFECT lettering when she went in for a service and came out with badly faded lettering - those effing goons in the valeting bay use neat wheel cleaner acid sprayed on the bodywork which literally strips any lacquer, I am told they do this so they only have to spray the car and then steam clean to avoid having to use elbow grease and a brush.

Needless to say all the lettering was replaced by them. There is nothing wrong with the OEM lettering it’s the Censored that use neat brick acid or strong alkaline as a pre wash - also your local friendly Albanian car washes have done the same to friends vehicles….. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

They use neat TFR to prewash, this should be diluted up to 1000:1 before use Shocked I had them Censored the window trims on my old S Class with it...

PowerfulUK don't sell the "Range Rover" lettering any more due to copyright issues...

Plenty on eBay... Thumbs Up Pete

I wont let my main dealer touch mine - I ask them politely NOT to wash it for these very reasons.
I spent hard cash having my AB detailed so don't want it ruined by lazy car washing techniques.

I much prefer the 3 hours peace and quiet to wash mine myself with a very strict washing regime Very Happy

Cheers

The paint is failing on my L322's front lettering - after the car was detailed.

I was thinking of painting them. Has anyone tried that?

I'm a bit wary of trying to remove them to replace with a PowerFulUK replavement set. Ron B. VK2OTC

Even though its undoubtedly strong chemicals that make the letters fade, it is still poor quality materials that facilitates the problem.

My wifes BMW is nearly 10 years old and has 139,000 miles......all the brightwork is tip top (with the exception of the badges in the wheel centres which have bubbled up a little, which only happened recently).
