turbos down...

Well I guess I'm running out of luck with my 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue. At 170 000Km it seems my turbo(s?) are leaking oil.
and my indy recommended a change, though (he said) he had only rarely seen them fail (he remembers 3) and break the engine.
An engine replacement is 22K€ !
the 2 new turbos from JLR are 7000€ !
I found 2 renewed ones at this adress for 1000£ :

If both turbo's have failed it indicates oil starvation at some point which would make me worry about the rest of the engine. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

If you are replacing the turbos get them to replace the turbo oil feed pipes at the same time they can get blocked up limiting or stopping oil feed to the turbos causing premature wear.

While stripped down seriously consider getting the second turbo oil drain mod done. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

200 TDi discovery bobtail gone

It would be standard procedure during a turbo replacement to make sure all oil and water feed and drain lines are clear. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

You might want to do a bit more investigating first.
Where is it/are they leaking from? how badly? any smoke or other running issues? is it getting worse?
When I bought mine there was an invoice with it that had a note on it stating it needed the turbo drain mod doing and also a new turbo due to leaking oil. This was at 30oddK miles and had scared the previous owner into P/Exing it.
It did need the turbo drain mod doing but now 90K miles later the turbo still has the same "leak"
One mans leak is another mans dirty mark.
I'm not suggesting ignoring it but it might be worth pausing before throwing big money at it - it's not always doom and gloom, you might be lucky

Thank you all for those wise words. it cheered me up a little.

I'll make a picture of the leaks and post it.
My indy told me that there was no rush, but that I should consider doing it (and it's maybe not both that are leaking, but once the engine is out, the best course of action is to change all that is otherwise innaccessible (tensionners, pumps, etc.)

here are the pics :
this is the front view with a yellow arrow pointing where ther is oil residue that got the attention of my indy.
the red arrow points to the hose he dismounted and there was oil residue in it (enough to wet a finger...)

as I'm looking around there is also some oil residue (but not much) on the rear right hose (see here under)

Normal to have oil residue in any turbo charged car's intake. Whey is the engine coming out? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I'm still negociating the work to be done and the turbo prices (refurb or new) ... I'm thinking no earlier than mid february.

I'm concerned about the traces of oil he found in the hose he took out though, is that normal ?

the taking out of the engine is >10h work and I'll change a lot of stuff while its accessible. "it needs some intelligence to undestand you may not have enough"

So let me get this clear - you are taking the engine out and changing the turbo's due to a bit of oil in the intake pipes? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
