Looks like the honeymoon might be over

Got my 11 plate L322 TDV8 4.4 just before Christmas - chalk and cheese from its TD6 predecessor - and I love it! However, and you just knew there would be a ‘however’, on a short run to take my wife over to Basingstoke to deliver presents for our grandson who is 1 on Tuesday, within the space of 5 miles I got so many warning messages, both amber and red, that I had to turn round and ended up limping home. Can’t quite remember the order but Adaptive Dynamics came up first, followed by low battery (red), gearbox, . . . . to be honest, too many separate warnings to take note of! Managed to limp home, plugged it into battery charger with the hope that I can at least get it to my local independent LR garage on the way to work tomorrow morning so they can run a diagnostic. I’m hoping it’s just something simple like battery or alternator - but at least it will be on warranty. Watch this space . . . L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Thank you, Stan - had it for such a short period of time that I didn’t even manage to ask for a ‘FULLFATRR’ sticker for it! 😫 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

sounds like alternator or battery. latter is cheapest so hopefully it's that. These models do suck up the juice - Just leaving a door open or the radio on for a little while will reward you with a ping warning to 'start the engine'!

However welcome to one of the best L322 models - as you say, chalk and cheese to the TD6.

(is that a REME cap badge Censored take? if so you should have no probs on 'first parading'!)

The alternators can go short circuit so keep an eye on your charger.

My cash is on a battery issue. There is inevitably going to be a few issues with a new-to-you car but after a period of bedding in (and some cash) all will be good. Just keep the faith Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

In my experience (I have had both fail in last 18 months) if you did not get a generator fault it is battery. when my battery had a couple of bad cells even when fully charged after starting i would get all those same errors. most home battery testers are not advanced enough to tell you about cell damage.

Changing the battery was an immediate fix.

When my alternator went a few weeks ago i just got a Generator Error warning and sure enough when i plugged in a fault finder i could see it was charging at 10.4 volts.

Changing the alternator fixed this. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

I wouldn't panic too much. As previously stated alternator or battery (poss wiring).
As you know these vehicles just love to give you a dash nightmare for the stupid of reasons Mr. Green

Doonhammer, I recently replaced all the pulleys on my car and while it was all apart I changed my alternator. It was working perfectly and you are welcome to it if you pay for postage.
I realise you may not want to take a chance on how long it would last for the work involved but the offer is there.
Kev.

My car had an alternator fail, with all the bongs bonging, suspension, gearbox, etc…and then some smoke from the alternator area, which prompted me to shut off, and disconnect the battery asap. The negative cable was getting warm, so I had a direct short on the battery… changed the alternator, and everything fine. The regulator diode pack is a weak point. But my car was on 200,000, and seemingly original alternator!

All is well - new alternator and battery fitted, apparently the garage that fitted the alternator at the start of last year didn’t fit the main electrical connection to the alt correctly . . . there’s a lot to be said for using a garage that knows what they’re doing. Thank you to Newbury 4x4 for sorting the problem out, wouldn’t use anywhere else! 👍 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current
