The most expensive oil change I have ever been involved with was when a vessel I worked on had to have a new main engine bedplate ( Due to severe cracks found in the main bearing support walls ) ...so....steps taken...pump 40 tonnes of old oil ashore, pay for collection and disposal, after engine rebuild, add approx 22 tons of special flushing oil, heat and circulate this then pump flushing oil shore for disposal etc, then put in approx 40 tonnes of new oil......

Would the suction pump get that out? This is the way i will do mine , remove the sump bolt! Tough old girls though the oil is there is no coolant yet the owner thinks it runs very well.  overfinch modified

I think the point is, not to let your engine get anywhere near that bad. Correct oil, frequent changes and good maintenance practices.

But if you are doing the plug method, flush a couple of extra litres of clean C1 oil just cos you can  2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Not deliberately trying to de-rail the thread, folks may find this interesting. As Kot said, oil is cheaper than an engine.

The oil change and flushing was carried out after the component pictured had to be changed, this is a main engine bed-plate and crankshaft, a bit bigger than ours, as ours was only a seven cylinder engine. Obviously our servicing has to be spot on and we purify and regularly test the lubricating oil. FYI our bed-plate was 105 tonnes. The crank shaft with the flywheel attached was 145 tonnes, not something you want to risk damaging
