i wired one if the original bulbs in line with the led... this gave it the resistance it needs and they both worked ok... ... - .- -.

on the existing 501's you can prise the wire contacts out and solder them to the leds and then tuck the bulb into the mirror housing...... ... - .- -.

Ah i assumed it would have been a case of splicing and soldering the bulb in, similar to the resistor.
