Hello and welcome Smile

What is the age and mileage of the FFRR VSE? I think you will notice a jump in costs - the 3.6 will cost more to run but is quite an efficient engine. VSE has plenty of toys to keep you happy and is a good buy. Check what warranty work the car has had done before you buy and try and buy from a dealer which will give you a warranty of some description. Servicing and parts will be more expensive on a Range Rover than a Land Rover - all to do with brand separation and the whole Commercial vs Luxury image that LR is portraying now. Probably costs them no more to actually do. There is more to go wrong on the RR than on your Discovery, particularly with the RSE etc etc that came with the VSE.

I'd go for it - in terms of refinement etc, the FFRR has no match.

what sort of problems are associated with RSE this is one of the reasons for looking at this rangie (for the kids).
will have to have a minimum of 12 mths warranty. anything i should look out for when looking apart from the obvious like off road damage, tyre wear etc.

i made the mistake of visiting the dealer to test drive the disco 4 yesterday, problem was they had a 2011 VSE demo parked next to it so had to have a test drive and i fell in love with it, it just felt they built the car around me!
i did test drive the p38 many moons ago and it was horrid so i have stuck with discos ever since.
apart from the engine and gearbox does the new range rover have same suspension set up etc, and is there alot of difference from the 4.4 to the 3.6
Very Happy

No problems with RSE - have it in my car and it is a really good system - really good. Yes 12 months would be good. I meant the toy count is higher and just overall more things to go wrong than in a D3/D4.

Uh-oh!! You've fallen into the RR trap - you won't come out of it now. Nothing else will suffice. I too drove a P38 years ago and it was actually the most horrible car I had ever driven. I then associated the 'all new' Range Rover with this type and never got back into a RR until last year when I knew I had to have one.

Not sure about the technical ins and outs but the D3/D4 is more similar to a RRS than to a RR. The RR is a completely different setup in most things.

There is a big difference between the 3.6 and the 4.4. I test drove the 3.6 last year, and then the 4.4 when it came out. Whilst the 3.6 is good, if you have driven a 4.4 you will notice the difference. 3.6 is less economical, higher road tax band, and a second slower 0-62 than the 4.4. Only trouble with the 4.4 is the price as they do seem to be holding their values well - when I was looking there was also very little Autobiography 4.4s available 'nearly new' so ended up buying brand new and don't regret it Smile

Cheapest 4.4 on Autotrader is £60,900 at the moment as they only went into production around 2010/60 reg. Don't get me wrong though, the 3.6 and more importantly the car mated to it is still fantastic.

3.6 is around 24mpg, 4.4 is giving me around 28-29.

Depends what model years - pre MY2010 Autobiography was custom order and needed to have something different to get the badge e.g. non-standard paint finish. Specification was generally high.

MY2010 onwards - Autobiography gets you above VSE:

Dual View Screen
Adaptive Headlights
Full Leather Door Cards
Full Leather Pillars
Full Leather Dashboard and Console
Full Leather Headlining with Rear Vanity Mirrors
Autobiography Wheels
Two-Tone seats as a nco

I got 24 mpg out of my 2005 Disco TDV6 commuting on A3/M25. Now get the same from the TDV8, performance is significantly better though.

We dont use all the extra multi media very often on our VSE, so I am not sure we would spec that on a new one, it is cost option now any way. It used to be bundled on the older cars. 2018 Range Rover Autobiography

Had 2 D3s myself in the past. A mate has a 2010 3.6 VSE and I love that. Also loved the '07 Vogue he had before that. Very different vehicle to a D3 (not that D3 is in any way bad, of course!). Just dipping my toe in the water now and ordering a new 4.4 VSE Smile

I am very lucky enough to say we have both Very Happy

My wife has the 2008 D3 HSE and my "newly aquired" 2010MY FFRR VSE Thumbs Up

Completely different cars but I have to say I love driving them both with very little to choose between them on fuel economy.

If one had to go though I would find a suitable "crash helmet" to wear before shipping out the D3 Whistle
