please do remember i'm a city boy and no gardener... Embarassed

Right its a palm type tree, two trunks going into one thick one at the bottom, went out today to have a dig and its hardly got any roots....i'm sure some of you could of told me that before i started digging... Whistle its still stuck so going buy a strap as i think it will be handy to own. The range rover will p*ss it...its no 100 year oak that by the sounds of it some of you guys pull out for breakfast.. Laughing

Thanks for the advice...and thanks for the offer fox, am tempted just to have a nose at your camel.... Wink 2004 black Vogue TD6

a rough rule of thumb for root ball size is :-

canopy spread = root spread = there is a lot more root below that in the photo.

Me thinks if you try to pull that you are going to damage your drive setts and wreck your wall. I would chop it off as close as you can get below ground and chew whats left up with a chain saw. Any good forester could do that - problem is there aern't many in essex Wink

Laughing as much as i really want to pull it out with the range rover i think Vogue is right, i got block paving one side and a wall the other, i will damage something.... Whistle so more digging and a chainsaw.

I know it dont look like it in the photo but it really is still stuck in, when i first started digging i thought this tree hasn't got any roots easy peasy but something's still holding it. I'm no body builder but 13+stone and plenty of leverage from the trunk and it isnt going anywhere.

So sorry guys no video this time but pulliing a tree out with a truck is now on my "to do before i die" list...ill just have to go find another tree. Laughing 2004 black Vogue TD6

Couldn't you just give it a little pull with the FFRR? We all know you want to! It looks a very strong wall and the paving will with stand a little tug! Mr. Green What could go wrong.

The tree could fall on the car?

I tried pulling out a tree stump with my van, (LWB FWD Vivaro) ended up spinning the wheels up on the spot Laughing Doubt it did the van any good either, we resorted to digging it out in the end. 2006 Mercedes CLS

never use a rope or steel 'rope' to pull out tree stumps etc - use a chain

if it breaks no risk of whip/recoil as there is virtually no 'stretch' involved - as taught by the forestry commission
