Does this need to be done on cars with a manual handbrake? Or is it just for the EPB?

Does the handbrake even work? I've replaced the discs/drums and shoes but the handbrake is still useless. Ron B. VK2OTC

Had my handbrake refurbished two years ago. All I did as a bedding-in was drive a few meters each time with the handbrake engaged whenever I got the opportunity.
New rotors, new shoes and LR adjustment procedure and still pretty useless a handbrake compared to most all other cars I've ever driven. I'm genuinely surprised how it passes the MOT every time...Standards must be very low.

Yes, handbrake standards are very low on the beemer era models.
I remember when the Swiss Mot was due with my 2004 MY, handbrake was close to nothing. The only comment of the tester about was “Oh yes, it’s a well-known issue with these beemer-system handbrakes, they don’t really work but it’s good enough for us. There is nothing one can do about."
