Automatic Car washes

A nasty thought passed through my brain cell yesterday whilst i was sat being pulled through an IMO car wash (other brands are available)

anyway the car survived but the question is are these type of washes likely to damage the gearbox? because you get pulled along a moving track on the drivers side (so the wheels are stationary) whilst the passenger side slowly rotate till you pop out the other end, auto box was in neutral but it stuck me as wrong to have only one side wheels turning whilst the other don't

thoughts?

I can’t get past any other thought than how much I hate automatic car washes and all the reasons I wouldn’t use them…. Laughing MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

They won't do any damage unless you're in a gear with the diff locked! Every time you turn a corner there is a wheel rotating more than its opposite number!

I'd be much more concerned about the damage that can be done to your paintwork from any debris that might be in the brushes.

I used to own a forecourt business with an up-and-over car wash and I'd never take my L322 through it..... Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Correct...car wash brushes tend to make small swirls in the paint due to dirt and grime and brush texture. Touchless is better but most of these places use recycled water so I heard.

Never had any tranny issues on my cars going through car washes.

Thanks all, that's put the mind to rest. although as it tried to rip both door mirrors off i doubt if it'll ever go through one ever again.

it was extremely dirty and the local hand car wash wanted £25 for a basic wash Big Cry still lesson learned
