Considering the cold weather temperature, anyone had any trouble starting their fattys?
I started mine the other morning after 2 weeks of standing and showing -4c, turned key, wait for glow plug light to go out, repeated, fingers crossed, legs crossed and bingo fired straight up. The only worrying thing was I heard a slight knocking on start up and went after a few seconds, anything I should be worrying about? I take it, it's because it's been stood still and the oil has got a bit thick with the cold?
My missus fl2 td4 is struggling to start every morning, so bought some anti gel diesel additive to see if that will cure it. Could probably do with some new glow plugs.

Mine started easily yesterday at -3 after being frozen for a week - no unusual sounds. Set the FBH going 10mins before from the bedroom window which warmed up the inside nicely before I got in. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

No trouble here. -10 yesterday and started the 4.2SC with no problems. Our FL2 finally killed it Yussa battery after 5 and a bit years yesterday though after a couple of HDC errors appeared and then it finally refused to turn it over. Gavin

My fbh doesn't work, maybe I should get that sorted at some point. I set the timer on night heater in my truck 2 hours before I start work, it's great to get into it being nice and warm and I don't have to scrape the ice off the windows.
You having problems with your fl2 as well then with the cold?

My FBH on my old 3.6TDV8 would only come on if a) it was cold enough and b) there was sufficient charge in the battery. As it has a parasitic drain at the time this meant it was off more times that it was used

The FL2 has been a great car - dare I say the most reliable LR product I've owned. Its just used consumables like the battery for instance. Maybe your glow-plugs need changing ? Gavin

I had a failed start the other day in -8c with no errors thrown on the Gap tool

Piecing it together I've been driving very short distances to the park to walk the dog, then back again, as the pavements have been impassable here this week (we had 17cm of snow in Essex) - I think what I've done with repeated freezing starts and a run of less than 5m is just drain the battery and not give it time to charge back up.

Put my jumper battery on it and started first time no problem, done a couple of slightly longer runs and can see the battery level via the Gap tool topping back up so don't think i've got a problem per se, just didn't use the car wisely in the conditions.

Will give it a slow trickle charge as soon as the warmer weather comes this weekend, didn't want to leave the charger out in this sub zero temps.

I had trouble before once or twice. Turns out the battery terminals were filthy. Quick clean with metal brush and away we get. Its actually a sport

It's funny what one gets used to. It's 2pm and 32 deg C (90 deg F) outside and it only feels warm, not at all hot. I think I prefer that to what you blokes have at the moment.

45 deg C (113 deg F) is predicted over the Xmas break. That's hot.  Ron B. VK2OTC

That's nowt a sniff of Easystart wouldn't sort !

Mine had a funny turn, well I thought it was funny SWMBO was with me at the time she didn't see the funny side. Anyway we'd driven to the shopping centre and when we got back to the car I just got a ticking noise when I tried it to start it. So we went for lunch (Pizza Hut handy), I called out the RAC and arranged for a taxi home BUT when we got back to the car it just started - magic. So I cancelled the taxi and the RAC and we went hone - as a precaution I put the C-Tek on to make sure the battery was fully charged.

It's worth mentioning it was during the cold snap, so FBH, lights, heated seats and heated steering wheel were all on prior to the drive and the drive itself to the shops was only short (10 miles). I'd also restarted it a couple of times to park closer to the shops, SWMBO can't walk too far. In fact I've just applied for a Blue Badge for her but thats not relevant. Geoff

A few months ago (mid-winter), we we taking a week down south in the nation’s capital and the temp dropped overnight to near zero and when I tried to start the L322 - nothing. Not even moving the gear stick helped (it’s had this minor bug of needing that ever since I’ve owned it).

This happened a few of mornings in a row. I was perturbed as the starter motor had just been replaced with a new genuine unit and I was a few hundred km from home and the mechanics.

It came good when the temp warmed up and hasn’t given trouble since. Ron B. VK2OTC
