Currently looking at getting it ppf'd when it arrives - cant decide between satin or gloss? Anyone with any experience of both would love to hear comments on pros and cons of satin vs gloss?

I had mine done, best decision ever. I went gloss, which isnt gloss the car looks the same, no one has noticed the film.
It just isnt matt, id call it clear not gloss but there we go!
The car isnt wrapped like I have had other cars done with a colour change the pieces are cut to suit each panel or like the door handles is only the flat front so its really easy to change if something gets damaged but so far any scratches or bird **** staining has self healed in the sun.
Ive added some pictures from when it was being done, one side has been done and one hasn't at the time of the photos, there really is no difference.

Looks good. Now, don’t misunderstand me here as I’m really not being critical, just trying to understand. If the paint colour isn’t changed, why do it? Is it purely to cater for a small scratch or two or is it economic?

You seem to suggest that a small scratch will self-heal. But what if you never have a small scratch? Will it have been a waste of money or are there other benefits? Is it cost effective vis-a-vis the initial outlay versus time car kept? Could it be done after a few scratches rather than before ie as a cover up rather than a preventative?

Maybe I just don’t get it. But I could be convinced.

The benefit is that it self heals and prevents stone chips. if he film gets scratched simply warm it up and all those annoying swirls you can get just vanish.

My dilemma is between satin ppf and standard gloss ppf - i've attached a satin ppf for reference! It is flipping expensive though you are looking at well over 5k - depends how important paintwork is to you!

You spend 120k on a car, 4k as a %age is negligible one may suggest.
I have always got annoyed with the scratches from hedges on the lanes near home.
The blue paint on my previous 405's has always been soft and prone to scratching and chipping easily.
It's not about value v resale v economics it's personal choice not to be stressed or annoyed when a hedge rubs along the side, a bird leaves its lunch leftovers on the bonnet or the kids clatter a bag into the side on the school run.

When I bought my first 911, I remember getting a copy of Christophorus that had a feature about Steve McQueens grandkids and SMs iconic 911 that the family still own. The son had doodled in the logbook sometime in the 70s, the car had numerous bonnet chips and marks, each of which they’d done nothing with because that’s the joy of ownership to them. Each mark an experience or a memory.

I’m the same. It seems such a new money thing to have done.

My L460 has now cracked 18000 miles, I’m not sweating the minor marks, it’s a car that crosses fields, pulls things, carries people and gets us there comfortably. A weekly wash does for mine.

Each to their own and how they choose to enjoy it!
