The steering wheel on my 2011 is in good shape but shiny from use. Is there anyway to restore it to that new smooth leather
condition without replacing it? I see some wheels on eBay at $895 USD all leather/heated and $1,295 for same with black piano wood. Thx!

Have you tried leather conditioner or restorer on it ?

You need to ask yourself which is more important getting a steering wheel that looks new or better than it does now.

If its the former, no amount of cleaning will get you back to a perfectly smooth surface as the sealer/mattifier applied to the leather will be long gone. I don't know whether they will ship to the US or not, but you could try powerful uk on ebay, they have refurbed wheels available for around £200. Or you could get it recovered in the US.

The conditioner won't restore the leather back to original condition, if anything it'll make it worse. You need a good leather cleaner to remove the years of sweat and salt from the leather and then colour it if necessary and then re-seal it.

funnyguy, I use regular household cleaner/degreaser (Mr.Clean or similar) to take shine and grime of the wheel followed by distilled water wash and than good leather conditioner, I use Dr. Leather cleaner/conditioner (smells really nice). This will look good for a whale.

Hi. There's a thread by jammyk regarding a shiny steering wheel on here. I've heard lots about a product called Gliptone doing exactly what you need.

I think it depends on whether you have a Ford or BMW era L322. The quality of the interior leather and seats differ markedly.

Gliptone is good stuff but needs using correctly . Less tends to be more in my opinion

Just put a post up although I don't see it. I tried (per Youtube) using Mr. Clean cleaning pad. It removed the oil and wheel is now back to its original new/flat leather look.

I had the same issue then ended up getting wheel retrimmed. A lot cheaper than a new wheel and looks great ...

The heating part of my wheel is not that great any more - can that be repaired at all or is it replacement only?
