Sorry, cant do MOT as your car is too heavy.

Booked my car in for an MOT at Stratstone Cardiff and asked could they arrange pick up from the house ( literally a mile away ) I was told that all the pick up drivers were on holiday so that wouldn’t be possible !!!!

So, I called in on the Friday before the MOT was due on the following Wednesday and spoke to the After Sales Manager who said he will personally pick the car up with his Service Manager, as all the pick up drivers were busy??!!!!

The car was picked up as promised and then later in the day I had a phone message call to tell me that they were unable to MOT my car as its was TOO HEAVY???!!!!!! Also would I like to have the car back until they find somewhere to do it, even though the MOT was now out of date. I called the dealership 125 times, every time engaged and didn’t manage to speak to anyone that day. An Email was sent to the Dealership, LR Head Office and SVO with a picture of the proof of the amount of calls i had made from my mobile.

And within 10 minutes the Dealership were on the phone to me and by all accounts none of their “technicians” were trained to MOT the car as it was a bit over 3 ton.??!!

I commented that if this is the case, how come the 2 Managers did not know this at the time of pick up, let alone when the booking was made, also my car surely cannot be the first to be TOO HEAVY for them to carry out the MOT.
Also I told them to keep the car until its done.

What is going on with LR at the moment??? They couldn’t provide me with the free drive away LR Insurance when picked up new direct from the factory, the are now not providing Insurance full stop. The Dealership blatantly lying with respect to pick up drivers not available, and then to top it all, a “Technician” that cannot complete an MOT on their own vehicles

I give up. Banging Head Banging Head Banging Head Thud Thud Thud 19MY SVA-Dynamic Spectral Chromoflair Blue but colour not available in profile

How is it over 3 ton? It’s about 400kg lighter than an L322 and the L322 isn’t 3 ton…..

I have had a quick search on tinterweb and it does seem to be a common occurrence. The computer systems that are used for MOT’s look at something called “Revenue Weight” Question Question

For my car my Revenue Weight ( which is the same as GVW ) is 3160 Kg. So by all accounts it has to be a class 7 MOT.

Class 4 is the most common for cars and such but up to GVW of 3000 Kg.

For individuals it can be found on V5, a marker plate on the car or just put reg in search engine for GVW.

I wonder if this is now another money making scheme for the Govt Question Question 19MY SVA-Dynamic Spectral Chromoflair Blue but colour not available in profile

Not heard of that before. Interesting.

For the L322 folks, I’ve just looked at the registration docs I still have. My 2003 TD6 was 3050kg and the 2011 TDV8 is 3200kg…

Just done some research, it’s not classed as a commercial vehicle, it’s a passenger car, so it’s Class 4. Class 7 is for commercial/goods vehicles only.

It seems a bit confusing.

I have just found this.

I know the headline mentions van, but in the write up it mentions for all vehicles.

It’s says that class 4 is for all vehicles with a GVW less than3,000 kg.

A class 7 is for vehicles weighing between3001kg and 3500 kg.

I totally understand where you mention commercial vehicles, but this just says vehicles.

Maybe the Service Advisor at Cardiff Stratstone was on the ball and being pedantic, but to be honest any dealings Ive had with them, i doubt it very much Whistle Censored

Bit more on the Gov web site.

https://www.gov.uk/getting-an-mot/mot-test-fees

Class 7 is Goods Vehicles.

I believe the Defender 110 and 130 pickups can be in Class 7, so may be where the confusion stems.

RR is classed as a Car, with less than 8 seats. It could be classed as Dual Purpose, but that’s still 4.
