My rangie is in at the local dealer for a power steering leak. I noticed a small amount of oil on the drive a few weeks ago, and upon further investigation, I discovered that the power steering fluid has dropped down from the max mark to the min mark.

I began looking for the cause, and luckily the pump itself is bone dry, as is the steering rack. So, couldn't see anything else but I though that it must be the pipes.

Had a call from the dealer to say that the Coil Cooler is leaking and needs replacing. They reckon its a big job, and have quoted me 4 hours plus the parts, with a total cost of £525.16 to rectify the fault, and to top it off, they will need the car overnight, whilst waiting for the part to arrive. I had a look on microcat for the power steering diagram (see below), and can now see what the part looks like, its marked as 3D746

So, i was wondering if anyone has had any similar issues, and also, considering that my car is a 2007 model with only 70k miles on the clock, is this normal? Surely this part should normally last for the life of the car?

Any info would be appreciated.

I too had a PAS issue, small leak draining the reservoir, made the steering groan, kept topping it up.

Apparently one of the pipes was at fault.

Similar cost. Not great on such a modern car to have these types of issues I felt. Discovery 4 HSE

I've never heard of that part, who knows if it exists! Either way, a fairly young car with not many miles shouldn't blow PAS parts, its just not right, Nothing we can do but cough up though. Discovery 4 HSE

Just collected my car, all is good again. loving it!!!!!

I checked my invoice, mine was the same fault, the coil cooler pipe.

Nice to have it back working when its been broken, you take it for granted otherwise. Discovery 4 HSE

Yep, we both had the exact same issue.......very strange. Makes you wonder if it is something to watch out for with the TDV8???

The same part just failed on my '08 TDV8. It's 9 years old and I've owned it for 5. I assume the one that failed was the original one but I've no way of knowing for sure (nothing mentioned in the log book at least).

My dealer here in Germany charged me about 600 EUR for parts and labour and new PAS oil. It took them 2.2 hours to do according to the bill. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 automatic (LHD), Santorini Black

I have a 2007 TDV8 and I think I've got the same issue.

I've dropped the front shield off and checked under. On first look it seems to be a leak on one of the cooler pipes. These pipes are held by a steel clip bracket onto the chassis - it wouldn't surprise me if the steel bracket was wearing through the aluminium pipe with normal driving vibration - if so really poor design.

I'll probably start a separate thread on this but I'll probably do the repair myself if I can. The problem is the workshop manual says you have to remove the radiator to get at the cooler - which also entails degassing (and then recharging) the AC system - so I can't do it at home if that's the only way.

I was hoping that there is a way of getting in through the front panels to do the change.

If that German garage did it in two hours that gives me hope that there could be another way.

Got similar issue on my L322 my2008 tdv8
Exactly under plastic clips one pipe leaking little and second slightly corroded alloy not leaking as of yet.

Need to source new radiator now.
