Our block renewal for 3 cars is just in and also covers the 3 drivers of each car for any other car they’re traveling in… £311/ year for the full RAC package.

The RAC cover allows you to nominate a main car which has the battery covered up to £500 and in the past year the L405 benefitted from that aspect of the cover without any quibble.

And we did also call upon the services of the RAC once recently when our son’s car had a warning light - they were out rapidly and resolved the issue there and then without need for further works. From call to resolution within an hour.

Very happy with our RAC experience during the last two years, they do seem impressive.

Just wondering what the general thoughts are though… AA or RAC, which do we think is better VFM or is it just personal preference (no experience with the AA)?

I use Aviva - it's run by RAC, with the policies and services being exactly the same, but the cost is significantly lower

The main thing for me is that if my vehicle is unable to be repaired at roadside, I can specify where it gets taken, anywhere in the country. Kev

That seems expensive...but then so's mine and I too am with the RAC. Have been for 40 years with roadside and recovery but not at home. I'm sure chopping and changign would be cheaper, but my cover is "personal" for me and my wife individually and covers us in any car we are in at the time...so not just our 4 cars but eg when she broke down in her sister's car with sister driving. Dont know if they still offer such a thing for new signups. Anyway renewal was £161.99 in November. Last used when the timing chain went on 5.0SC - otherwise not used it recently but paid for itself many times over with my 2002 fatty. I've always had a good response when needed. Mike - MPx

I just use Tesco vouchers (not real money) to get basic RAC cover, I have used it once to change a wheel (its what I actually wanted it for). Did have to wait an hour for them to turn up but thats better as I am to old weak to let the spare wheel. Anyway I don't want my arse hanging out into the carriageway should it happen on the motorway, this one wasn't. It would appear that arse isn't censored so - arse arse arse.  Geoff

I have Europe RAC for wife 2 grown up children and myself. Each year they quote for renewal at silly money and each year we tell them no and pay about £200. Once had us and car brought home from Dunkirk letters not necessarily in the right order

I've used Greenflag for many years now. My wife and I are both covered for any car, at home, recovery, European cover, blah, blah, blah. Renewal for this year £128.80.

I've only had one call out in those years. 3rd party mechanic but all very efficient. It was a puncture on the RR. I didn't fancy using the jack provided on a very uneven country road but I wasn't sure that I was technically covered for a puncture. No problem, he got his trolley jack out and replaced the wheel. Good job!

Thanks for the replies. Rang RAC and queried the price. Learnt a lot:

1. Two call outs in the last two years (one RR and one another car) adversely affected the renewal price;

2. We had the RR as the named vehicle meaning if the battery fails they replace it up to £600… but as they fitted a new battery to the RR under the RAC cover last year, it’s pointless having it as the named vehicle because the battery is now covered for 5 years… so we made one of the other family cars the main vehicle!

3. They reduced the cover level fee by £60 on the back of my query call to them;

Happy with the amends and reduction which means we’re now paying the same annual price we paid 2 years ago👍🏻
