New Key issue and a module in boot!!

Hi guys I have misplaced my spare key and been informed by the stealers its not a straight forward job you know like they always say!! They have said the new key will also need a new module in the boot is this correct as I just presumed they could programme my new key to the vehicle and that's it. They quoted me £417 for key and programming plus £200 for new module bit excessive I thought.
Cheers

I have a similar problem the l405 I recently purchased came with one key and to get a new key programed due to it's age it needs a new box and they're on back order so I have to wait. There is another thread but can't find it. We are not alone.

You don't need a new box in the boot you just need a proper auto locksmith with the right kit.

They'll remove the box and tap directly onto the board of the box and go direct to the memory to add / delete the keys.

Mine only came with on key and it was the first thing I had done, think it cost £200 and he came to me so it was done on the driveway. Current
