Bottom line is it’s probably the best engine that’s why, and what are the alternatives - it’s either a 3.0d which is another Diesel engine or a 5.0, of which there are not may around and they are probably even more expensive depending on the spec.

MDs are way too expensive and there are plenty of alternatives. In August, I took the plunge and replaced my aging L322 with a L405 Vogue SE SDV8. I didn't care for paying a premium for a MY18 model, but I wanted one registered after 31 March '17 to get the lower road tax and Apple car play already working. Other than that, reasonable mileage and full service history was a must. I managed to get mine for £41k with 60K miles and almost blemish free inside and out, and with a 3 month warranty. I have already booked my front and rear diff, transfer box, and transmission oil changes as preventative measures.

The problem is Suki the normal garages or even private sellers are asking very similar prices to the main dealers so imo its better to buy from them and get the LR Warranty throw in . |

I’ve been watching prices on 5.0 SCs for most if the year as my current car approaches 4 years in my ownership and 7 years since new. As Vogue points out, there aren’t many 5.0s out there and I haven’t seen one which ticks all the boxes for me; most have black interiors and there are lots of shades of grey exteriors, neither of which I like. I look for 3 year old cars which are AU and the current prices are mental. As for non MD kit, they’re even worse. The 4.4 V8 is an awesome unit and plenty quick enough and as noted, you go a long way on a tankful of diesel.

How much of premium is there with a V8 over a V6? I keep toying with the idea of selling my 4.4 2017 SE with only 26k miles for a deposit on a new one. Then when I think about it some more I dismiss the idea because I have all the car I could ever need right now. 2017 Vogue SE

I'm glad I got mine in the middle of lockdown from a main dealer as I think I'd struggle to get such a good deal now. Although I feel I missed out an any 'niceties' of the handover etc. They pretty much chucked the keys at me

What’s the relevance of that date? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that? |

cars registered after 1st April 2017 will have lower tax. After April 2023 it should be £165 I believe. |

Having had both the 4.4 isn’t noticeably faster? Do I just have a fast 3.0? And the 3.0 is a lot easier on diesel. |
