For those who leave keyless turned on, are you not concerned about it being stolen from a carpark?

I was under the impression that the thieves could watch you exit the car and follow you to pick up your key signal as you walk away.

Or am I misundertanding how these things work?

No. This seems like a UK problem. I haven't heard of FFRR thefts being common around here. L405 2016 - Supercharged V6 petrol 380hp

I only learned how to turn the keyless entry off last week from this video below, at which point I turned it off.

For anyone who doesn't know how, this video shows how to do so from 6.35 minutes - There's also a couple of other tips that some may find useful:

I'm picking up my new 2019 L405 next week, I asked the salesman if the keyless entry can be turned off and he said it can't. If that video is correct, it can indeed and the salesman is either fibbing or dim.

Am I correct in thinking that turning off the keyless entry will prevent most thefts?

I've switched off keyless and programmed one press superlock (with chirp) using the iidtool...when the mirrors fold and the chirp sounds then i kmow its locked proper..

Is this something I can ask the dealer to routinely enable or do I need an IID tool (or someone with one) to do this myself?

I read upthread that some immobilisers (Ghost) invalidate the warranty. Is there one that doesn't? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Most dealers & sales staff wouldn’t know how to program the clock on the wall!

Turning on first press superlocking is an IID only facility I believe? Other members with different diagnostics capabilities will add I hope? JLR can only set your car in its entirety into one marketplace! IID can cherrypick different features from different marketplaces which is one of its great features…

Turning off the keyless opening/locking as in Powerful’s video is a hack and not a documented JLR feature so I guess you can forgive the sales staff for not knowing…

Incidentally, I’ve been checking all the L405’s I get in and almost everyone has the low coolant, low oil pressure & level warning set to inactive in the CCF’s!!! FFS JLR what are your dealers doing at PDI point!!! Banging Head Banging Head Banging Head

Current measures:

- Faraday Box
- I bought a OBD2 physical lock but can't get it to fit, yet
- Security camera and motion lights pointing at car.
- Samsung tracker disk

Other suggestions:

- Cover your VIN if possible. Sometimes the VIN is recorded as part of the recce and helps with preparation.
- Dummy Claymore with flashing LED placed under your vehicle. Might discourage catalytic converter theft!
- Cheap, battery operated, motion triggered alarm unit inside the car. Completely independent of the car's systems and would be utterly annoying for thieves.
- Tie a long string with lots of tin cans attached. Would make a hell of a racket driving off at 3am
- After market demobiliser[/list]

I turned off my keyless entry and double lock. My car is my2019 which I believe has wide band key, but still don’t want to take the risk.

Having read all this I've now become paranoid so I will start locking the car AND taking the keys out. No that will be taking the keys out AND locking the car. Many is the morning I've said to SWMBO "I can't find my keys" she says "have you looked in the car"? - she's always right. Shocked

Funny enough I did disable what I see as the rather pointless keyless entry for when I'm out and about. I also double lock unless I'm leaving the dog in the car. Geoff

Double-press to deadlock (long flash of indicators and a chirp confirms); keyless entry disabled. I've also set it up so that I need to double-press to unlock the whole car. Regards,

Not on my 2014 Stan, next to nothing in the CCF can be changed, maybe a tenth of the options you get with a 322..!! Pete

Slightly off centre reply however at home we rarely even lock them ! (don't tell anyone) To the point of running around in the morning looking for keys and they are still in the bloody thing Rolling with laughter Fortunately we live miles away from anywhere and anyone approaching the yard would have the dogs to deal with Rolling with laughter

As others have said:
Disable keyless
Double lock
Faraday box (mainly so I know where my keys are)

It does annoy me having to do this though, because I would find the gesture tailgate feature useful but turning off keyless also disables this.
