Hey sandy was it black with blacked out rear windows? You'll probably find it's a police special operations vehicle. I see them all the time in them when I'm in France and also in VW T6's and ford galaxy's, all black.
I was swapping trailers once with another driver in a layby about 2am in the morning, when one of them turned up and 2 balaclava clad sub machine gun armed officers got out.
While we trailer swapping, we had kettle on for a coffee, made them one too, had a chat and then left. Never had a problem with French police or douanes, always polite and friendly. If you've done anything wrong, speeding, breaking weekend driving ban etc etc, just pay the fine and on your way.

I wouldn't worry about getting a speeding ticket through the post sandy. The French no longer have access to the dvla database so they can't find you. I get flashed by at least 4 cameras a day in France when I'm there and also in Germany, i don't hear a thing.

There may not be data sharing, I don’t know, but there is nothing to stop the French blacklisting the reg and then pursing the cash when you are in their country next time. Or the new owner is! Rolling with laughter L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

Until you pop up on their database when you eventually get physically stopped, get presented with a list of outstanding tickets & begin the long walk home because they have impounded your car !

Friendly yes, nice ...mmm. These "anonimous " radar cars are now everywhere, the only thing you can recognize them by is the fact that round their numberplate you wont find a dealers name. Dealers are affraid for "revenge" by the people.

Don't think to light about "not being found" If they get hold of you in France by your licenceplate or for a regular check they will collect all outstanding ones.

Just back from another trip and was stopped at the peage that will be 90 euros sir - they had a radar set up further down the road the Gendarmes were in good form and I asked them about outstanding tickets and he confirmed that they are held for minimum 6 months on the system - not sure if that is true or not but something to think about

Hmmm - that's interesting.

I've never had a ticket sent to England, though more than my fair share of roadside stops in France. I often wonder if it is because my registration plate is not a 'standard' UK format. Mine is 2 letters & 4 numbers - so a Luxembourg (and maybe others) format. Even though it has always had GB and now UK identifiers, maybe it's just too hard as ANPR wouldn't cut it and someone would need to look at an actual photo.

There may even be another car somewhere in Europe with the same registration number as me......
