I have the same noise (albeit quieter and not so quick) - I am having a service soon so will get my RR indie to have a look and report back. My initial thoughts are it is a belt or tensioner prior to adjusting something? |

That's what I'm hoping - I bought it a few weeks ago and pulleys were squeaking so I had them sort that before I bought it so hopefully this is either one they didn't replace or one that they need to adjust maybe ....

Isn't that the viscous fan coupling (fan clutch)? Quite normal for it to make a tick tocking noise when cold on the 4.4 TDV8. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8 |

Maybe - to be honest that noise on its own wasn't a huge worry but the combination with the burning smell and the chirping sound was the bigger worry. But maybe this sound is the fan clutch 👍

Had a similar issue turned out not to be a knackered engine as advised 😡😡 but water pump on its way that made the clicking with the bracket that holds the fan and the belt tensioner this meant the belt was rubbing giving a burnt smell, all sorted now 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 TDV8

Sorry for not replying sooner - I'd say engine oil below the pollen filter housing - will take that out and have a look It's just back from getting warranty work done - new starter switch cured the bad starting and the ticking noise they reckon is a vacuum solenoid..... They're working on it to fix it so I'm not arguing 😄 |

Will keep an eye on that - garage reckon the ticking noise is a vacuum solenoid - their words - so will see if they fix it - will put it back if it smells again |

There is a known fault with the TDV8 4.4 where the rubber O rings for the turbo feed at the top of the bell housing weep, allowing oil to run down the housing and onto the exhaust, so it'd be worth checking them.

Thanks Mike - will have a look at it and see what's happening - I take it an oil leak there is quite obvious? |

Yes, if you get under the car you'll be able to see where the oil is running down the bellhousing which then finds its way onto the exhaust.

Sorry to relive an old thread. Mine does this but continues when hot. The belt seems to move and I can see the tensioner moving. My indie specialist has spun all the idlers and pulleys and says they all seem good.
