Get some *cheap* oil of the correct spec. and keep flushing with that after driving a few km's - in UK I can get 20l of Smith and Allan ATF for ZF 'boxes for £99. Don't worry too much about the fill level being absolutely correct, just use it to get the wrong oil flushed out, then once happy, fill with the correct ZF oil, preferably with a filter change as well. Personally, whilst I was in there, I'd drop the mechatronic and change the interfaces ('rubbers') as well. |

As Phoenix says, just cycle the gearbox for 1,000km or so with some cheaper oil of the correct specification and then drain and change the filter, replacing with the genuine ZF fluid.

There's a great tech article on here somewhere of a home done flush with no special tools beyond a largeish plastic tray. Invoves running the engine with the trans pan removed and a gravity fed source of new fluid. Got a bit messy when I did it but its a one time deal and gets the bulk of the fluid out. Look in the wiki.

im in UK, I bought 8 litres of ZF lifeguard 8 and a sump/filter, for about £150, delivered from Holland. via Ebay. you can only put about 3 litres in from a drain. (tdv8 4.4 2012) |

Ok, that would be great. I cant seem to find this in the wiki - only for tdv6 and other gearboxes not the ZF8p70 one. If you know where to find it that would be really great.

Apologies. I was referring to the 3.6 and now realise that you have the 4.4. Having said that, I can't find the procedure I followed successfully almost exactly a year ago, in the wiki now. Very strange.

If the wrong oil is in now, I'd say 1000km is too much, personally I'd just do enough to warm up the transmission to running temperature and then drop the contents. You could have the whole job done in a day.

I meant if wishing to 'flush' it, put in a cheaper Lifeguard 8 for 1000km and then change the filter and ATF for genuine Lifeguard 8. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8 |
