Autobiography spec not worth the extra money

An Autobiography just isn't worth it. I have an HSE on order and thought about upgrading it to the AB but the jump in price doesn't get you the same value in extra options. I must be missing something here.....

SWB P440e PHEV Autobiography = £127,665

SWB P440e PHEV HSE = £114,325

The extras that comes with the AB are not worth the £13k+ price differential. By worth I mean that the list prices of the extra options don't add up to £13,000.

What am I missing here please?

Is there additional leather like in the L322, door cards, roof lining, pillars etc that would not be on the options list? Tom

I worked out my autobiography spec on an HSE equivalent and broadly came to the same price…there’s certainly no discount as far as i could make out, and that’s assuming you value the additional extras. When i challenged the dealer their comment on an up specked HSE, their comment was “it will always be an HSE regardless” …now i saw that as a pretty iffy sales pitch, but at the end of all of this, it comes with meridian signature and if you are upgrading wheels the price differential is close

My philosophy is to start with the lowest spec and upgrade to the spec that I want rather than what LR dictates. After 4/5 years, there is little difference in values. The "it'll always be an HSE" comment is so last century.

It feels really odd to me: I specced two cars today. One a HSE the other an Autobiography. Both SWB and the P440 PHEV model.

The HSE came to £124.9k. The Autobiography was £135.7k. The only thing I was missing per the dealer from the Autobiography spec on my HSE was:

1. The Signature Sound Sytstem (the HSE comes with the mid rank Meridian sound system)
2. Massage front seats and Executive class rear seats

I cant see anything else, nor could the dealer. And I could add both those options for another £8k. Paying £11k extra for an Autobiography doesn't make sense even if you love the two missing items.

The exact spec of my HSE is in the link below.I really want to spec the Autobiography but cant see it as a waste of money based on the above. There must be something I and the dealer are missing.....

BTW I saw this car in the flesh today (exact colour scheme I mean) and it looked totally awesome.

I just did a painful line by line comparison of the brochures for the two cars I specced. Here are the things the AB spec has over my HSE:

1. Signature Meridian Surround (HSE has 3D Meridian surround)
2. Massage front seats with executive rear seats
3. Black painted brake calipers (HSE has unpainted brake calipers)
4. SV bespoke full leather upgrade
5. SV bespoke carpet matts (HSE has standard carpet matts)
6. Autobiography badge
7. Versatile loadspace floor
8. Illuminated metal treadplates
9. Electric rear side window blinds
10. Four zone climate control (HSE has 3 Zone)
11. Configurable programs

So a fair bit more spec. Why cant they produce a brochure to make this stuff easier!!!!!! Worth the extra £11k or so? I am once again torn. Love the idea of the Signature sound system and SV bespoke leather upgrade. Rest i'm not fussed about.

For me, it's the small details on the Autobiography models which have always made them feel more premium.

Little things like the stitching on the dashboard and the headlining materials. These are elements which I don't believe you can add to an HSE model, at least I'm sure that's the way it was on the L405 and I suspect it'll be similar on the L460.

I'm in the US with the same issue.

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same there but here we only get the leather headliner in an Autobiography.

So if I spec an HSE and an Autobiography as close as possible, it's about a $16,000 difference for what amounts to the leather headliner and the upgraded stereo. And yes there are a few smaller differences but those are the big ones.

And I prefer the leather headliner so much that I might be crazy enough to do it.

As has been mentioned, if it’s the same as the L405, only the Autobiography has a leather dash, the other models have vinyl and you can’t upgrade it. Was one of the reasons I wanted the AB. I appreciate some people won’t care, but I was used to having full leather and didn’t want my next car to feel like a step back. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

just spent the morning in a 460 at a dealer. Really nice interior and far better than the Disco and the Defender (they've gone really cheap and plastic! Shocked )

However was shocked by the rubber/foam stuff they use for the top of the dash. Was not what I was expecting. Even my L322 2011 dash is better. What gives?

There is one other reason for having an autobiography, it is the only spec for a P530. So if you want a last hurrah for ice then you get mood lighting and a leather headlining weather you want it or not. letters not necessarily in the right order

You should do a similar price comparison with the SVO.

Here you will find they are really taking the pxss.

The seat frame and cushioning on the Autobiography is completely different.

As others have said the full leather upgrade (particularly the full leather headlining) is a really lovely touch.
