Handbrake Beeping & flashing on start up

Hi All,

I have noticed a fairly frequent (but not all the time) beeping when I start the car and the handbrake light is flashing. to stop it I just have to pull the handbrake on and it all goes back to normal.

funny thing is the handbrake is still applied as normal throughout the beeping, it has that slight tug as it releases when you drive off if you don't manually switch it off before driving.

I forgot to mention it at the latest service but they didn't mention anything and it was in for a few other things which they had to drive around for.

its a 2007 with the e-brake

My handbrake light has always randomly flashed on startup since I had the car. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

The flashing means the car doesn't think it's fully applied or that there's a problem so, may just need some adjudtment because it's pretty easy to hear the mechanism work and confirm there isn't a fault.

Also, just check how you're using the car as well. Changing suspension height with the parking brake still applied can cause the error, as the wheel position needs to move slightly when you do. Always release the parking brake before making a suspension height change. If starting up this means release and then change height. If parking this means access mode and then parking brake on. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks both that’s really useful. Interesting to know about suspension before applying brake. I always do the suspension last for some reason so I will try this in future

Mine does the same, typically more so if on a hill. I scanned codes a while ago and it had U0128 - lost communication with parking brake control module. It all works fine so I’ve never bothered looking in to it any further.
