Recommendations for engine swap garage 4.4 tdV8

I need to get my engine replaced on my 2011 4.4 TDV8. Any reasonable (ish) garages that do a push in (lol) drive out service, car is currently in Oxfordshire but I can get it transported…

Take it to Glenrands.

But is it worth asking them to assess whether your existing engine is damaged beyond repair ? I think cam chain replacement is a 6 hour job

Possibly, just think a second hand one with guarantee may be better, as it’s an interference engine the valves will be bent and all sorts of guess..

Any competent garage should be able to do the job so no need to go far from home but sourcing the donor engine will be the tricky part. I'd have thought it would be easier to replace the whole engine complete with ancillaries rather than swop them over from the old engine. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I'd say only use one of the recommended garages on this site. They'll have done several engine out jobs on the 4.4 TDV8 before so, although the hourly rate might be a bit more, they'll probably get the job done quicker (and not miss off things like pipe clips etc!). Even 2 hours saved is a couple of hundred pounds, which leaves you no worse off anyway.

Glenrands are only just over an hour from Oxford. Can't remember the book time for an engine swap but I imagine it's in the 10 hour region so, c. £1,000-1,200 in labour inc VAT would be my rough guess, plus the engine obviously, plus oil and coolant and any other ancillaries.

My (bad) experience using a normal garage before was that a) they hadn't done that engine before and b) they charged a daily surcharge for 'ramp time' whilst the car was 'clogging up' the ramp (even though I pointed out that the vehicle still has 4 wheels and they'd likely roll it to the other end of the garage anyway!) Basically, normal garages don't want the job unless they can make a mint from it. So I recommend not even going there. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I don't know anyone that's tried this place but the reviews look good, maybe worth a try.

I wouldn't hold your breath......
Get on the phone on monday and get some quotes for supply and fit of an engine. I've seen a few places offering this on ebay with prices starting at around £7500 which is likley to be higher at a LR specialist.
Good luck Thumbs Up 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Ouch…yeah maybe I’m hoping a bit too much, may have to resort to the spares or repair route getting rid…I just couldn’t justify going over 5k with repairs, even at that it’s owing me far too much tbh…

Just on a quick search, tried this company?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173870185734?mk...media=COPY

The advert seems to signal all the right things to be looking for re re-engineering, checking tolerances, straightness of the crank, new pistons and gaskets etc.

I expect the price doesn't include labour. Explain to them the issues with your engine - they'll probably know what's salvageable if they need to rebuild yours vs buying a block in. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

I've just seen this car being sold I think.

Was thinking about attempting the rebuild my self. Think they said cylinder 6 is dead but rest are fine? Do you have anymore info on it?

Cheers

Nah there's a car up on ebay fitting this exact description.

Looking at the users post history though it might be a different one.

But it's too much of a coincidence to be in the same place with the same issues

Still not sure what you're referring to.

Avityesboy's vehicle is non-running and iirc the timing chain has slipped off a sprocket potentially causing major damage, and the vehicle had 'Westminster' wheels.

Seems different to a vehicle described as having a 'misfire' and having black wheels. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
