This whole market is completely out of control.

In any other walk of life we would call a situation where a retailer takes your money with no guarantee of when it can deliver the product, and then price gouges you while it keeps you waiting, a scam of epic proportions.

I completely understand the reasons for it but I am out of buying an L460 until some form of market normality resumes.

My only slight regret is that my dealer offered me a car in March for July delivery which they did eventually physically get and I didn’t take it as I didn’t really like the spec. Could have flipped it for a tidy return!

I Cancelled my D350 order as frankly the entire experience has been a take. I was at the launch event last September and place an order at the event. Those at the event were meant to be Range Rover VIP customers where we have owned a handful of previous range rover products however no one has had their cars delivered. There are over 100 for sale above list on Auto Trader now so how they are chosing their customers to deliver too leaves a lot to be desired.

It's funny but as soon as I cancelled the order the next day I was given a delivery date for the new Range Rover Sport for October 2022 for which strangly I was invited to the launch event too!

I am not really interested in the new RRS as I dont like the way the rear end looks so will most probably walk way from that too.

JLR are losing the plot.

Whilst deliveries have clearly been managed in typical LR style, I’m not sure there’s much they can really do about supply issues given they’re industry-wide.

Well it's not really supply issues as cars are being delivered. Supply issues are part of the issue but a lot of it is around how JLR are allocating their cars.

When I passed Pentland in Perth last week they had a used D350 AB at £145,000 (or maybe £149,000, not certain), black/black pack/black in case of use to anyone on here. It is a bit annoying that customers can't get cars when dealers are selling at a premium of maybe £20,000. But there we are. While the L460 is somewhat better than the L405, it is not so much better that I cannot wait until supply and demand come more into balance, and it will maybe do no harm to allow some of the new model teething troubles to be resolved before buying. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I wonder if, due to lack of chips, they are actually building these cars and storing them somewhere until ‘chip time’!!

I just can’t imagine them sitting around in the factory doing nothing.

Any ideas ?

You would think the least that JLR could do to retain any goodwill with customers that put down early deposits and still have no build slot would be to hold the original order price. JLR just don’t care one bit. My BMW was massively delayed but at least the price was held.

I have an email dated 31.01.22 from the dealer stating that the price struck from the configurator, and as used by them for the order, would not change after the deposit was made.

On 02.02.22 I paid the deposit and received a receipt dated 02.02.22.

There was a subsequent price increase but I don’t know when that was or how much.

I wonder if that email on 31.01 is a legal document. Hope so.

I would say it's legally binding nrg - You did well to get that.

If the dealer has put to you in writing that your price won't change, I think they'll have to honour it.

I have heard this said before about cars having been built, but still awaiting certain parts and so they're incomplete and parked up at the factory.

While I don't know whether this is true or not, one thing I do know, is that when I went to the factory back in 2018 after ordering a facelift L405, there was literally hundreds and hundreds of FFRR parked up in pounds around the site, and in general, dotted about all over the place and in huge numbers.

I was told these cars were waiting for collection, to be shipped all over the world. This was before any of the Covid nonsense or supply chain issues, so part of me does wonder, is that what people are seeing, or are these cars genuinely missing parts.

Someone the other day (not on this forum) told me their car was sat at Solihull waiting for door handles!!

I'm not saying that this or 5.0's information is incorrect, but I do wonder if these are cars waiting to be shipped, or awaiting parts such as door handles.

I'm divided, part of me can't see a car being stripped down in a car park and parts added by JLR, not when everything is normally done in a clean covered environment, with precision equipment - Then another part of me thinks, if it keeps the production line moving, and makes a car 99.9% complete, then maybe!
