Hi all,

I've recently purchased a used 2009 (2010MY) RR Vogue SE, loving it so far!

I have read the various posts about the buzzing noise that can sometimes come from the temp sensing fan in the climate control dash section. I have pulled the dash out carefully, unplugged all of the leads and used some compressed air to clean it up. The noise is still there and I think the fan may need some lubrication. Has anyone had any experience of actually opening the fan up and oiling/lubricating it please?

I just don't want to break anything!

Have you unplugged the dash section with the controls and have the little fan out of the equation? if the main heater fan has noisy bearing it would suggest it due for new bearings. Someone else will chime in to help you out.

You could try spraying the fan with wd40 and see if it improves things. If so you could then spray it with a light lubricating oil. The one thing you have to avoid is covering the fan assembly in oil as it will then collect dust in use.

Been looking at lubricant sprays for another reason and note that WD40 do a PTFE dry lubricating spray this may help you with the fan as it wont leave a sticky mess to attract more dust etc but should sort the bearing

i got a can of that PTFE spray on the recommendation here as mine makes a slight fan/buzzing noise when the heater first runs in the winter (but not the cold AC in the summer)

Are folks just randomly squirting in thru the vents or actually removing bits to get access and targeting a bit more precisely ?

if it were mine i would pull the dash assembly out carefully and give that bearing a spray with that dry PTFE and reassemble.

thanks for the reply, by dash assembly do you mean the whole dashboard - in other words start removing the driver/passenger vents, the speaker grill then unscrew the whole thing to get at the HVAC system innards ?

Nah just the section, if that isn't possible you will have to spray through the vent hole as explained before. On my L322 i can remove the small front section without taking the dash apart.

So I've been playing around with the RR today....should have been fixing the rain sensor though. I decided to attempt to fix the noisy cabin temp sensor fan instead, here is some of the photo's i gathered.

The controls come apart in 3-4 pieces just be careful with the plastic clips.
