That sounds too much to me.

I get 10L out when the engine is cold and the oil has fully drained down through the engine overnight. Takes longer to extract cold oil though. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Sounds about right to me. Removing the cooler will have removed a small vacuum inside the block and allowed some additional oil to reach the sump. When I do a change on warm, I get around 9 litres out anyway and that's only leaving it to drain for a short while. Total official capacity is 9.9L. As your oil is now within the fill range, leave it there, drive it for a day and take 2 separate readings tomorrow 20 minutes after using. Obviously ensure the car is level. ![]() |

I’m on the same page as you in this. The draper vacuum took out nigh on 10litres so I’ll keep my eye on it. I started with 8litres and it was on the bottom mark and saying top up. I did a litre at a time and in the end added the final 0.5litre and it’s just short of the top max mark. Just takes ages to check the level as we all know!

If it’s on max when cold, it will show overfilled when checking warm 20mins after shut down.

What you take out is immaterial, especially on DPF equipped vehicles - any work on the oil cooler will release additional oil back to sump, not a massive amount, but 'some'. A dealer service fill will be 9.4 litres, no messing around with checking levels, a little bit at a time etc. etc. these boys are on the clock so are not going to waste time when they know that 9.4 litres will put the oil level indicator around the 3/4 full mark - which is where it should be.

Why not check the oil as per advised in the owners manual?

It does on a Discovery 4, may well on a L405 but definitely not on a L322 <2009 |

It only works on L332 if you have the bonnet open |
