4 months on and I'm still loving it!

Every day we read something has gone wrong with someones car.

Well to balance this mines been great! I still have a massive smile when i get in every morning.

Shes covered 86k miles now so i took the opportunity to have the gearbox oil changed and good news the old stuff came out clean.

Got my new 19" wheels and this has changed the look of the car completely. will post some pics soon.

Going to spend a few hours soon and re condition the leather. and she'll be spotless!

Love it!

There's a reason I own 4 of these things - or became a RR nutter in the first place!

I worked as an automotive electrics/electronics specialist to earn my keep while going to school (that's going on 20 yrs ago Crying or Very sad ). When we got a RR in the shop, it was invariably to repair some idiocy no one else could find - like the blower motor not working because the in-line fuse hidden behind the glove box fascia had blown. Granted, these were not brand new RR Classics, but centralized fuse boxes were more or less standard in all cars since the 60's. The RR's had 3 central fuses - each with like 35Amps because they were powering the entire car!

Even better, tho, was when one of these got hit from behind. The wiring for the taillights goes from the drivers footwell up the A-pillar, along the roof, down the C-pillar and to the taillights. When the lights were shorted in an accident it became a race to see what would burn through first, the 35 amp fuse or the 15' long very skinny wires to the taillights. As far as I could tell, the fuse won - but only after the wires had melted their way through the headlining leaving a laser-like slice from from to rear. Rolling Eyes

Then I drove my future pop-in-laws 87 RRC to the south of France for 10 days - I was hooked. And now I own one of each generation like it says in the sig. Each one has it's quirks, but they are def worth it. And the L322 is mild quirkwise when compared to the others - especially the P38. Smile

I've had my L322 for about a month now

I have the vanos rattle on cold start
Dash pixels are missing
Paint has worn off the door handles
Handbrake may as well not be there
Driver's seat creaks
I've got a knocking from underneath
I find the ride on 20" wheels quite bumpy
Parking sensors have a fault

And yesterday, the gearbox oil cooling pipes decided they didn't want to have oil in them any more

Somehow whatever happens it doesn't seem to matter, I LOVE it!! 2008/58 FFRR 3.6 TDV8 Vogue

After a false start with my 2002 V8, I am on cloud nine with my 2005 S/C.

It is simply the best car I've ever had, and usually the best car in the vicinity! It's such a pleasure to own and drive.

I'm always keen to 'pop out' for whatever we need, and journeys are usually over far too quickly.

I can never resist that look back when going inside, in fact I'm lucky if I don't walk into my front door or wall.

After it's been cleaned it just looks fantastic, until a million flies commit hari kiri on the windscreen!

With a bit of mud on it looks even better.

There's no doubt it's not the easiest/ most practical or cheapest car to own. However there's a saying I really like that sums up RR ownership:

'Don't ask for things to be easy, ask for them to be worth it!' Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I think all cars have issues. I sold a Porsche 911 (964) before I brought my RR and that had so many little issues and gremlins. I use to do around 600 miles per year with an average yearly bill of around £1200-£1500 once the receipts were added up through the year! (All those "little" things always cost loads!)

Since I have owned mine (I brought it in October last year), its had a few bits done, but still not costing me anywhere near what the Porsche did, and I use it every day.

I also love the way that many of the bits you can do your self rather than keep paying out.

I will admit that I dread the gearbox issue and expense, but even if I put that into perspective, a new clutch for my 911 was £1200. (That said I have no idea how much a rebuilt gearbox is and do keep my fingers crossed I am ok!).

I brought my RR as I wanted more space, comfort, and something I could use every day in all weathers.

It brings a smile to my face everytime I climb in, and as has been said, even a "pop up the shops" is a joy.

I know I love mine! Reformed

The 964 was sold from 1988-1994. You're comparing a 20 year old car to a (max) 8 year old L322?

The 911's from 1984 on were regarded as being ridiculously reliable - in their time. There are numerous age related issues coming up on the earlier cars now. I don't think this is a fair comparison. Expecting a 20 year old car to behave and cost like a 'nearly' new car...

Sorry - next to being a RR nutter I'm a Porsche nutter. Whistle

Sorry, It was not meant to be a comparison. Porsche are my absolute fave car. (I would not have sold it if I could have afforded both!) I just think the RR isnt as bad as it can appear.

New Porsches also have issues and glitches, as can most cars, I just think that if you are looking for and researching a RR then not to be put off.

They are great cars. Reformed

Agree re: Porsche. My 997:2 has had a few electrical problems. But, in terms of build quality I would say Porsche is unrivalled.
