ZF8 Transmission Fluid and Filter Change

I have been dealing with a few clunks on the front end of my 2013 L405 SCV8. I bought it March 2021 with a one owner full JLR service history. Lots of maintenance and items replaced. All good 😊

I replaced both lower control arms and sway bar brackets myself which were getting worn. The sway bar bushings were replaced by the previous owner. This helped with some creaking.

I then replaced the front and rear diff fluid, and transfer case fluid myself. This also helped with creaking and shudder.

Lastly, I replaced the transmission fluid, filter, and pan at 166,000 km. Due to work commitments and an upcoming 2,000 km vacation I was unable to do this myself. Luckily, my independent shop will use parts I bring them. Their labour was $225 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦, fluid from RockAuto was $100 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ for a 5L jug, and the new type pan/filter was $150 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦. Decent prices and less than what the Indy shop quoted me.

The hard downshift clunk when accelerating hard is all but gone. Regular driving shifts are buttery smooth. I don’t even feel them anymore. Feels almost like a one-speed.

Do yourself a favour. Have this serviced soon. They are not factory sealed for life like the manufacturers say. ZF says to service under extreme use at 48,000 km. It’s worth it. Do it.
