I have a hard copy print out of the service history of my car and all invoices for work done on it in my ownership, insisting on them when the dealer said ‘its all on line now sir’. Do the same with the Mini, whose system ‘forgot’ to send me an MoT reminder. |

We purchased a SAAB some 2 and a bit years ago, it had no SH but we took a punt. Car was fine, however managed to get hold of the previous owner. He told us when he traded it in it had a full file of receipts. So contacted the independent place we got it from just in case it was left on the side. They said because it had the details of the chap, complying with GDPR they destroyed it . visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk |

GDPR rules mean most history that relates to repairs or replacement parts will be missing from a dealer purchased car. When I traded in the last few cars dealers were not interested in the service history either. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

I dont quite understand as I got the full service history with my car from a dealer and no where in that documentation does it give owners names.

Service history of oil and filter changes don't have personal details but replacement parts and repairs have invoices and therefore names and addresses 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

How can dealers destroy service history invoices with the name and address of the previous owner when in fact you have the last owner's name address on the new log book when you receive it?

Dealers have to remove personal information by law - they could opt to just cutting out the addresses on every invoice but they just can't be bothered I guess . I've no idea how the GDPR rules relate to the V5 with regards to last registered keeper but likley one law in this case overrides another. Very likley the GDPR rules will be scrapped in the next few years anyway. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

GDPR should be easily overcome by the previous owner signing a consent form. After all, the service history can be an item worth several hundreds or thousands of pounds, and should therefore be saleable with the appropriate consent. (i'm no legal beagle)
