Should I / shouldn't I... L405 Supercharged

Hi folks,

I've been away from the FFRR fold for a few years now but remained a member and pop in here and D3 Forum most days.
My iPace coming up to the end of the lease in a few months (been a great car). I won't be buying another new car as I'll be retired and I'll have to fund it myself. So, as my mileage will drop, it makes perfect sense to buy a small economical car like say a Golf, but I'm not interested in that.

So.... am I in need of therapy that I'm seriously considering looking for an early-ish (say 2014/15) L405 5.0 supercharged?

Be interested to know from people who have this model (or had one) whether that's actually a grand plan, or utterly stupid Laughing Graham

If you fancy it just do it, I would try to go for a late 2015, IE 65 plate as they have later canbus and suspension upgrades on the front, (I believe). I have a 65 SDV8 and love it.

If you are retiring you should go for a sensible car. I believe a Honda Jazz will meet your needs.

Do as I suggest and not as I do ( I am well into my retirement). Chris

Its a great engine without doubt, why not compromise and go with the 4.4V8 Diesel? still a V8 and powerful enough?

I must admit i have seen a lot more supercharged for sale of late.

Ah sorry i see you had one before.

I suppose the fact is that I want to stay away from diesel now. But you're right, it's a good match for the car! Graham

No experience of the years you have in mind, but I'm happy with my 2017 MY. It's a pleasure to drive and I prefer the styling to 18MY on. It has needed software corrections, replacement of some corroded items and there have been a few minor issues.
Fuel consumption is not great in the current price climate, but if you are retired you have more control over how much you use it.

Who knows what the future holds, there is no point in looking back and wishing you had got the car you wanted when you had the chance. Maybe they will get a bit cheaper as more L460s come on the market and prolonged high fuel prices reduce demand.

Good luck with the search. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Agree diesel 4.4L , very pokey, but buy post 2016???? Ie euro6 compliant with ad blue. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...

I keep looking for a 5.0 S/C, but then I drive my SDV8 and wonder what extra I would get. My car has, to date, been faultless and only has 52k miles on it (65 plate 16MY). Sensible head says stay with what you have, but it doesn’t stop me hunting for a decent 5.0. Been looking for best part of a year mind….

I've just retired and am tempted by a last petrol fling.

I have an SDV8 right now, and similar to Andy, it's been faultless and so I have no excuse to change - and I've done significantly more miles. I've also slowed down a little bit, I'm not in so much of a hurry any more - and have seen a decent increase in economy - I've discovered it's possible to get >600 miles from a tank Shocked

My next one does really need to be LHD, so maybe I can use that as an excuse to change Laughing

Thumbs Up

I think looking at the specs that MY17 might be the sweet spot but it's going to be too much money I think. I'm going to take a serious look at the TDV8, they're less money to buy, more numerous, and cheaper to run! A winning combo. Graham
