Tyre Extinguishers

Yep, you read that right. A growing gang of bods going around letting down SUV tyres in various cities as they're 'polluting', ignoring that most new ones meet Euro 5 and Euro 6 regulations. They let down the tyres of a PHEV in Brighton. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I've previously read about anti-tamper / theft valve covers - anyone recommend any? 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

And if they can't vent their misguided rage on letting your tyres down they may well just slash them... Shocked Pete

Yep.
According to their PR they're trying to stay the right side of the law by not doing that as they want to maintain as they see it, the moral high ground.
There's also the issue that if they do what they're doing (take off cap, put small stone in cap, replace) there's no noise to give them away, whereas a tyre slash will - they've been active in posher urban parts which generally means cars are close to houses. 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

Well they are not staying the right side of the law on two counts ;

1) Criminal Damage (which can be interpreted as changing the state of an object)
However, damage includes temporary impairment or temporary loss of use:
R v Fiak [2005] EWCA Crim 2381 Case summary &
2) Interfering with a motor vehicle ;
https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.10...3100006688

Of course catching them is another matter.

& they are laying themselves open to a serious civil claim should injury or loss occur due to anything that arises through their actions.

"they are laying themselves open to a serious civil claim should injury or loss occur due to anything that arises through their actions."

You could be right and in no way am i trying to excuse or justify their actions, but i'm sure the onus is on the drvier to make sure the vehicle is in a fit state to be driven on the public roads.

If tyres have been deflated, irrespective of the cause, it's still the drivers responsibility to be safe and compliant.

Mike

You are quite right about the drivers responsibility Mike.

However, in this litigatious age the "duty of care to oneself" can be got round by the right legal team.

They could also delay someone going to a hospital for an appointment or visiting sick relatives, just a couple of important reasons why this is so wrong.
Only hope I don’t catch one messing with my car, sad thing is I’ll be the one getting prosecuted if I take what I deem as reasonable force to stop them.

And I'm sure they all still eat food that has been delivered to the supermarket by a polluting lorry and if they get ill they would expect to be taken to hospital in a polluting ambulance!! Morons.

There are caps you can buy that are metal, with flats on and a rubber insert, you can do them up with a spanner, the rubber grips and stops them being removed by hand...

If they truly are not going to cause any permanent damage then these may prevent them from deflating...

Load on eBay... Thumbs Up Pete

I live near Bristol and there was a piece on the local BBC Points West after the 6pm news all about the Tyre Extinguishers (probably misguided University students),who pride themselves on being part of the other numpties, "Extinction Rebellion"!

The reporter actually followed two of the low lifes around and filmed them. One was a girl with blue nail varnish, both wore masks (not PPE) and hoods. You know the type, seen regularly at all the anti-rural protests and too cowardly to show their faces.

Anyway, the reporter interviewed the poor SUV drivers, who's tyres they had let down in the dead of night, one of whom was a doctor on call. She was not happy and explained the possible consequences of their actions, like for example, risking lives of people who she might be called to see.

When this was put to our male friend from "Tyre Extinguisher" what did he say? He said, and I kid you not, "What's one life against the billions likely to be killed by Climate Change".

With that my wife told me to switch the telly off as she thought I'd have a heart attack!!! The sad thing about it is, that the doctor was driving a Hybrid electric SUV, so just shows the mentality of these idiots!! All LR cars from 1984
