Breakdown cover renewal

Been with rac since 2019 paying £32 a month for full cover and extras on my fatty and the missus Freelander 2.

Had a the renewal come through this morning and gone up to £41 for both cars. Anyone else seen their cover rocket in price?

Our multi car RAC cover rocketed at renewal some months ago. Rang them up and they said it was because we had 1 call out during the 12 months (for a car other than the RR… and one that they didn’t even fix or recover). They were surprised when we said we didn’t need their cover and would just cancel…. and they then offered the same level of cover for the same price as the previous year. Actually think we could have got it for even less than that Thumbs Up

Never bothered with breakdown cover until I bought my current FFRR, Britannia breakdown & Recovery through LV is ~£29 p.a. No excess and I can add on European cover as needed.

Hi,

it always seems a lottery and call to them to see if they will drop or match other prices Rolling Eyes

last year with AA £35/year for me for recovery and onward but not home start as took insurance with them for the Porsche,
renewal £130 Shocked or can drop the onward travel £56 for the car (a D3) or £70 for me
will be looking at Autoaid next I think as only now need breakdown cover.

happy hunting for deal

Thumbs Up

I'm gonna go down the cancelling route and see what they say. I've done a quote with the AA and it's only £22 a month for both cars and fully covered excluding European cover as i don't need it.

And another thing, Virgin tried to up my broadband price too, from £28 a month to £52 a month. So phoned them up and asked why such a steep increase and they couldn't answer apart from there's a war going on and making things more expensive. My response was, "i didn't know you imported broadband from Russia". So cancel it and I'll go to BT , they soon kept it at the same price. Seems everybody is jumping on the bandwagon.

I've been with the RAC for 22 years now and I always got a discount when I complained about the price of my renewal. They don't give me a discount now but give me 15 months cover for the price of 12 instead.

The suppliers upping their prices at every renewal Censored me off. If it was an actual increase to cover their costs I wouldn’t mind so much, but they drop prices with next to no hassle.
They tend to up prices by just short enough that you don’t bother shopping around as no one really wants to be bothered with it. Especially insurances if you have any claims you need to account for!

Mind you, I am pleased the insurers can now only offer the same deals for existing and new customers so that hassle is less of an issue now. This years fatty renewal comparison showed no financial benefit of changing Thumbs Up

As for assistance cover… mine is included with my car insurance and gives me enough to get me and the family home if needed Currently driving: 2012 L322 SE Overfinch 4.4 tdv8

If you get recovery with your car insurance please check details. Years ago flooded a BMW 520D in literally 6 inches of water. Called insurance recovery to find it covered only a 8 mile tow! Nearest garage was 10 miles away but fortunately I was my local BMW dealer but took a bit of arguing to get it lifted. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Here's a trick to get RAC cover for a fraction of the price....
....buy it through Aviva.

It's exactly the same policy, level of cover, service etc. All run by the RAC. Exactly the same.

https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/motor/breakdown-cover/

I pay £65 a year for rescue and recovery for both me and the wife for any car we are travelling in.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up Kev

Had my AA renewal offer - Fatty and Defender were £222 last year, this time they wanted £540, then reduced to £340 when I queried it.

Needless to say I’ll be looking elsewhere - Green Flag came in at under 200 - anyone had experience of them?

Just quoted by Aviva £87 ridiculous. Evil or Very Mad RMC was £40 for two cars
