Opinions on tyre size and ride quality please

My FF came with 22" Revere rims with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 305/35 ZR22 tyres which appear overly wide on them, so the rims are probably standard 9.5J, and should have the more usual 275/40 on them.

I would like to change back to genuine Range Rover 22" rims so I don't have the hassle of explaining again about them when my insurance is due for renewal, and hoping there is no bump in premium, and also swap to standard size Scorpion Zeros.

I'm very happy with the ride but what would be the effect of going to 275/40 on it? The side wall would actually increase from 4.2" to 4.3" according to a tyre size calculator so the ride should improve fractionally based on that but the width will go down from 305mm to 275mm. Does the volume of air inside the tyre also have a bearing on ride quality and if so will the decrease in volume negatively impact ride quality?

I know what I think but opinions from those more knowledgable please. Chris

I have a set of genuine overfinch ‘tiger’ 20 inch, with 285 50 20 road tyres on. All tyres are near new, £650 in Chessington. I used to use these on my old 2002 v8, drove fine, and look perfect, unlike 22’s which look daft, with tiny profile tyres stretched around them. Look for them on eBay, but approach me here.
I also have a set of 20 inch Westminster alloys with good tyres too. All wheels look near perfect.
