Gents as most know I do long journeys in my fattie so question is would it be prudent to swap the rear airbags more of my preventative maintenance as they are the originals and have done 225k miles and also are 15 years old in June ?

Depends, if you do not plan to sell the car soon, then if it were me I would plan to change them in the not too distant future, as you said....Preventative maintenance.....always the best route for reliability, much better than the crossed fingers technique.

Given the complexity of the system you should (following preventative maintenance logic) replace the compressor, airlines, valve blocks , air tank

Fronts and compressor were changed about 6 years ago and it is showing no faults but dont really want to get stuck a thousand miles from home so might change them and the dampers

I rarely sell a car still have my classic and p38 in the back garden both with mot but dont get used much

I changed the rears on mine in November, Sandy. They still looked in good shape when I removed them but I figured that seeing as I was in there doing the rear shocks I'd do the rear bags.

Not a bad job to fit.

I read that Bilstein were the OE to LR and that picture certainly implies it so I bought 2 of them as they were £130 each less then the LR boxed ones.

One thing I would do though is remove the tank, wire brush it and paint it. They're very thin metal and weigh next to nothing but suffer from corrosion horribly!! It's very simple to remove too! 2 bolts at each end of the reservoir and one air line connector.

I replaced the shocks about 4 years ago so about 80k ago so might just do the bags shocks and might even put in a new tank should keep me busy for a couple of days

Were cheaper there then anywhere and meant the bags and shocks were matched. Probably doesn't make that much difference in reality. It seems to ride well on them though.

Part number for the air receiver is used to be RQN500013 but was superseded to RQN500080.

Current RRP is £196.69.

Brilliant David might as well do it all in one go
