When I bought my '11 TDV8 one of the tailgate straps had rusted through and the other was getting pretty close to being in the same state.

I bought replacements and fitted the obviously broken one first. When I went to fit the other one I found that the thread in the tailgate that it bolts to was missing. I've tried the most commonly sized rivnuts but they aren't the right size.

Any suggestions as to how to fix this?

When you say none of the ones you've tried fit, is that because the thread doesn't match or that the hole on the tailgate is now too large for the rivnuts you have?

Something similar to a Versanut may be of use. Perhaps speak to a company such as Rivetwise.* on

The other way might mean dismantling the tailgate trims inside and seeing if there is any way to fit a nut to your bolt. I seem to recall there is a thread on this problem on here from some time ago.

A solution so obvious that it hadn't occurred to me. Pulled the cover off the tailgate and put a nut on the back. Problem sorted. Thanks for the suggestion.
